This is written from the shou's perspective. His mother died in childbirth, and the family fell into hardship while his father worked away from home. On his birthday, he is suddenly pulled into an instance and can only return by completing it. He and the main gong have known each other since childhood. The System is a mysterious entity, and no one knows who created it. It has certain powers, but only within its instances. In the instances, the System's power is comparable to that of a creator god: it controls life, death, and memory. There are various irregularities within the System, such as NPCs who break free of the System's rules, natives who must not know the rules that govern players, and players who become NPCs. The shou lives in endless darkness, while the gong is a cold, aloof red rose. They save each other.
