A Crime-Solving Novel About Bickering Lovers Rekindling Their Romance

Inspiration struck, so here's an early preview:

The day Lin Zhixia returned to the country, it rained as if someone had died.

Lin Zhixia opened a private detective agency specializing in investigating wealthy families' affairs, and her career went completely off the rails.

Once a genius detective who had chased a serial killer across all of America to claim the reward, today she was getting her hair pulled and her face scratched by someone else's mistress.

And, as luck would have it, her ex-girlfriend Yan Ling saw the whole thing.

After returning to the country, her ex inherited the family business and became a CEO, growing ever more cool and dignified.

In the restroom of a banquet hall, the CEO washed her hands elegantly. Looking at Lin Zhixia's disheveled reflection in the mirror, she suddenly sneered.

"So this is what you've become since we broke up?"

Lin Zhixia swallowed her anger.

Half an hour later, a piercing scream erupted from the private room where the CEO was.

Lin Zhixia rushed in.

A corpse lay motionless on the coffee table, while the other women screamed and fled the room.

Lin Zhixia looked at her ex-girlfriend, standing terrified on the sofa with her back pressed tight against the wall.

Then she gave a cold laugh too.

"So this is what you've become since we broke up?"

Later, Lin Zhixia finally gets a proper case.

But at every crime scene, her unlucky ex-girlfriend is there too.

The shou is a young, dignified, aloof, highly intelligent CEO from a wealthy family, and a compulsive overachiever. Unfortunately, she's unlucky all her life and keeps getting caught up in murder cases. She's a poor soul surrounded by danger, with no wife to protect her.

The gong is a genius oddball, skilled in languages, weapons, lockpicking, hawking scallion pancakes, and all sorts of other bizarre things. She's so devoted to solving cases that she's given her whole life to it, even losing her wife along the way: a private detective.

The two fell in love while studying in America. Back then:

The gong was an engineering prodigy and oddball, a younger beagle-type who had her heart set on becoming a detective.

The shou was an economics major and the second generation of a wealthy family, a highly intelligent germaphobe and an exceptionally difficult ice queen.

How they fell in love doesn't matter. What matters is what happened after they broke up and the gong graduated and returned to her home country.

By then, the shou had successfully inherited her family's conglomerate and become a cool, distant CEO. She'd gotten so good at putting on airs that she'd cultivated a reputation for elegance and nobility, and no one called her difficult anymore.
