Just after her graduation ceremony, Zhang Xiaomai gets a call summoning her back to her hometown, a thousand miles away.
The authorities have suddenly announced plans to build a road and requisition the graveyard in the village's northwest corner. The villagers are ordered to move their families' graves to the cemetery in town. The relocation fees will be waived, and they'll also receive additional compensation.
The young people in the village are all in favor of moving the graves. A new road and money, it's a win-win. But the elders, led by the village chief, refuse to move them, insisting that the ancestors will bring disaster if angered.
Someone ignores the warnings and digs up their family's grave. After that, strange things really do start happening in the village, and people begin dying one after another.
It seems the world has completely forgotten this remote, run-down mountain village.
By the time Zhang Xiaomai comes to her senses, corpses are already piled like a small mountain in the ancestral hall, filling the place with a foul stench.
She sees someone laughing and crying, dancing wildly as they run toward the cliff:
