How many secrets can light conceal?
Zhou Mingchuan, a rookie in the criminal investigation squad, decides to share an apartment to save money and meets Lin Xuzhi, an illustrator who calls himself a "night owl." The other man makes red bean rice cake soup at dusk and aligns the corners of his sketchbooks into straight lines that would impress even someone with OCD, yet the light in his studio never goes out at night. When Zhou Mingchuan notices that his roommate always pours too much coffee, arranges his paint tubes like a color spectrometer, and hovers his fingertips by the keyhole three times before touching the key, the truth warmed by those golden-lit evenings begins to shed its tiny cracks.
This is a story about two people lingering at the edge of an endless night, becoming sources of light for each other. A long-buried traffic accident report in the criminal investigation files, charcoal strokes spreading across a sketchbook, and a floor lamp that is always lit on snowy nights: some light must be borrowed for a lifetime, and some secrets are easier to see in the dark.
