Zhou Xubai: A handsome guy who has it all: looks, grades, and a great sense of humor. Yet he bears the cost of his seriously ill mother's medical treatment all by himself.

Lin Yan: A gloomy bottom, extremely self-conscious and introverted. But when it comes to getting things done, he is more earnest than anyone. His childhood and family left him with endless shadows.

Transfer student Lin Yan arrives at his new school carrying the scars of his family. Isolated, he always shuts himself away in a corner of the classroom. Then one day, he discovers a copy of Stray Birds in the library, covered in annotations. On the title page, someone has written in crooked handwriting, "For you in the future." Following the clues in the book, he meets Zhou Xubai, the sunny, cheerful heartthrob of the school: a boy who is always sweating it out on the basketball court, yet quietly hides all his feelings in old books.

The two are brought together by the book, and Zhou Xubai barges into Lin Yan's world like a little sun: sharing an umbrella with him on rainy days, secretly slipping warm milk into his desk, and even starting a "Sunset Watching Club" for him. Lin Yan, too, gradually opens up as they spend time together, using his paintbrush to capture every dazzling moment of Zhou Xubai's life. Then an accident reveals that behind Zhou Xubai's seemingly perfect life lies the burden of caring for his seriously ill mother alone. Two wounded souls lean on each other, becoming the brightest lights in one another's lives during the days leading up to the college entrance exams.
