Mia has recently been having the same dream over and over. In it, a golden fruit platter falls from the hands of a god.
She wakes with a start, lamenting that the door must have knocked something loose in her head. Then, sure enough, overnight all the food swells and grows enormous.
The evening news calls it the "Great Big Food Disaster."
Grapes at fruit stalls grow so large they crush apartment buildings into ruins.
Peaches lying on the ground swell in an instant, flattening skyscrapers.
Every mango hanging from roadside trees grows to the size of a car, crowding out the roads.
Blood, screams, panic.
In terror, people throw all the food out of their homes, only to approach it again when hunger takes over.
Countless people are left homeless, while countless others pry open fruit skins, crawl into the flesh, and make their homes inside the pits.
Mia is an ordinary college student. When the disaster strikes, she is hiding in her dorm room, catching up on sleep. The tempting aroma of the hamburger on her desk carries her into a fantastical dream.
Then the hamburger's sobbing wakes her up. "Boo-hoo-hoo! Please don't eat me! I don't taste good!"
The hamburger has grown arms and legs, and sweet cheese sauce streams from its dark little eyes.

--- The Great Big Food Disaster ---
Note:
1. This is expected to be around 500,000 characters, a medium-to-long novel. I plan to start writing it at the end of 2025. (Second edit: I'll start after finishing my apocalypse money-making story.)
2. Disaster survival, with zombies. The female lead has a passive golden finger, but she doesn't know it herself.
3. Food disaster (beginning) - extreme heat - extreme cold - floods - all things grow - to be continued
4. As a worldbuilding detail, food that grows enormous doesn't spoil easily.
5. This is a realistic, serious story with an unadorned style and an ensemble cast. The golden finger is minor. It's about ordinary people struggling to survive the apocalypse. No gods.
