Zhang Shu worked part-time at a convenience store, where he kept seeing a slender man come in at dusk. The man never bought anything. He would wander slowly between the rows of shelves until the sun had completely set, then leave empty-handed.
Zhang Shu couldn't help starting to watch him.
He was handsome, especially his nose, with an impossibly elegant curve.
His voice was gentle. Once, Zhang Shu heard him say thank you, and the sound was enough to savor in secret for days.
His body temperature was astonishingly low. Zhang Shu once deliberately offered him an umbrella and touched him, and it felt like touching a piece of cold jade.
Then, one day, Zhang Shu accidentally heard that he was married.
His interest vanished instantly, and he regretfully put away his observation notes.
He never expected the man to come to the checkout for the first time, pick up a box of condoms, and ask him:
"Want to hook up?"
I'll take another look at the blurb and revise it when I start posting. Younger gong, short story.
