Shen Chang is an avid reader of novels. He loves all kinds of romance and often daydreams about having a beautiful relationship of his own. Wanting to get in shape for the sake of protecting his future girlfriend, he starts working out. A year of regular gym visits later, Shen Chang still hasn't found love. He breaks down: “Damn it, am I destined to be single?” But his muscular physique does attract a bunch of gay men. Shen Chang breaks down again: “I'm straight as hell!”
Later, Shen Chang accidentally contracts HIV. “Which bastard out to get revenge on society did this to me?” Shen Chang grew up in an orphanage, with no parents and no one to rely on. He doesn't have enough money for treatment, and he has no especially close friends. When the guys from the gym learn he has HIV, they all steer clear of him. Shen Chang goes home and waits to die. His greatest regret is never having been in a relationship, so he writes a novel to give himself something to hold on to.
After finishing the novel, Shen Chang feels exhausted in body and mind. He lies in bed, staring at the clock on the wall as the hands tick away, as if his life is slipping away with them. When he wakes up again, he discovers that he has transmigrated into a book, and not just any book: he's become a minor character in the novel he wrote himself!
Shen Chang is a staunch materialist, but this is just too unscientific! While fighting evil and standing up for justice, he happens to save a young man being beaten up by a group, only to discover that the young man is the villain, and that he's fallen in love with Shen Chang!!??
That can't be right!
