1.
After the announcement of Yu Nan and He Bai's arranged marriage, everyone thought he would call it off.
After all, Yu Nan is aloof and devoted to his studies, rational, capable, and independent. He has never let love trouble him.
Someone as lofty as him could never be trapped in the traditional, old-fashioned marriage arranged by his parents, much less be willing to take the subordinate role to a man.
Besides, Yu Nan and He Bai are distant from each other. They've only seen one another from afar at a few banquets.
No one knew that Yu Nan had actually agreed to the marriage.
He had been secretly in love with He Bai for years.
2.
He Bai is a die-hard straight man, ill-tempered and cold, with a violent temper and an extreme hatred of gay men.
When he hears that his family has found him a male spouse, his face darkens on the spot.
"I'm homophobic."
"Get lost."
"I'm becoming a monk! I'm calling off the wedding!"
At two in the morning, He Bai, fleeing from the wedding, accidentally breaks his leg. He has just returned from the hospital when he's carried straight into the Yu family home.
Seething with rage, just before seeing Yu Nan, he swears with a dark look on his face, "You can force me to come here, but can you force me to get married?"
"I'll crawl out of the Yu house if I have to."
Then he looks up and sees Yu Nan coming out of the tea room with a cup of tea.
The rising steam blurs Yu Nan's features. He stands upstairs, the light tracing a thin glow along his profile, his gaze distant, his appearance cool and beautiful.
He Bai freezes, suddenly unable to say a word.
After a long silence, he finally manages, "...Yu, Yu Nan, it's you?"
At that, Yu Nan looks down at him, his expression calm. "He Bai, long time no see."
3.
One is homophobic, the other aloof. From head to toe, they seem like a terrible match.
Everyone is betting on when they'll call off the wedding, and Yu Nan is gradually losing hope and beginning to consider doing it himself.
On the first day, He Bai suggests they sleep in separate rooms. Yu Nan thinks the wedding will probably be called off soon.
In the second week, he catches He Bai expressionlessly sniffing his clothes, brows knitted together. Yu Nan thinks the wedding will probably be called off in a couple of days.
Two months later, He Bai breaks his leg again, just when he should have recovered and moved out. Yu Nan thinks that if it hadn't been an accident, they would have called off the wedding already.
Three months later, He Bai holds him tight and won't let go, his breathing suppressed and rapid, seeming somewhat displeased. Yu Nan thinks, probably any moment now...
Wait.
"He Bai, where are you touching me?!"
