I am the last emperor of the Da Jing dynasty.
I ascended the throne as a boy, with a loyal and hardworking regent to help govern.
I trusted him completely and left all the affairs of the empire, great and small, in his hands. As for me, I slept through court sessions and played cuju afterward. Life was wonderful.
Sadly, it didn't last. My regent died suddenly, worked to death.
I became a tyrant.
Without anyone to rely on, I couldn't attend court or review memorials, so I was overthrown.
When I woke up again, I found myself in a strange place.
Here, people can only get money to buy food by doing something called work.
I had no choice but to adapt.
On my first day at work, I met a handsome, tall man.
The people here told me he was the CEO.
What do you mean, "CEO"? That's my regent.
I ran up and threw my arms around him. "Waaah, Minister Sui, I finally found you! How am I supposed to live without you?"
As a CEO, Sui An is handsome, charming, and rich, and everyone around him, men and women alike, adores him.
But all he cares about is work.
As if love could be more important than making money!
Then one day, someone tried to scam him.
The guy was clingy and wouldn't leave him alone, and he wasn't right in the head, going around shouting things like "I" and "minister"...
If he wants to be emperor so badly, why doesn't he go ascend to heaven?
But the guy was a new employee at his company, and Sui An believes in obeying labor laws. So:
If he can't fire him, he can make him work. Work him hard. All those delusions are just because he doesn't have enough work to do.
This world has flying fish, cars faster than carriages, and bosses who exploit people even more than I do.
They say working in this world is like "being an ox or a horse."
How dare they call it that?
It's even harder than being an ox or a horse.
I can't eat or sleep properly, and I even have to wear clothes other people have already worn.
But when you're under someone else's roof, you have to keep your head down.
I swear, as soon as I get back, I'll strike Minister Sui's name off the list of esteemed officials.
Sui An takes the new employee under his wing and personally trains him.
But the new employee can't do this, can't do that, can't do anything at all, and he's a pampered, delicate thing to boot.
Sui An gives up and swears that as soon as the employment contract expires, he'll fire him immediately.
Until one day, Sui An awakens to the memories of his previous life.
He looks at the little emperor he has raised, now haggard and listless,
and drops to his knees with a thud.
* The gong isn't a tyrannical boss. He's a good CEO who follows labor laws.
* A silly, sweet little story
