Jianyue got her name because, while she was still in her mother's womb, she and her mother nearly died inside a serpent's belly. They survived thanks to the immortal master Dongfang Yue, who rescued them.
Sadly, after her mother died, Jianyue was left with no family. She wandered from place to place, suffering abuse. At fourteen, she fought to the death against a man who tried to force himself on her and gouged out one of his eyes. He beat her until she was bloody and threw her out of the village.
Jianyue lay dying beneath an old tree. Night closed over her like a coffin, and it seemed that if she shut her eyes, she would sleep forever.
Then a figure stood over her. Dressed in white, he seemed to glow with moonlight as he asked whether she was willing to go with him.
She saw the moon once more. This time, she would never forget him again.

Madam's writing is so good. I like the beginning [Spreading Flowers], it feels like an old drama.
