Zhu Sui transmigrates into a military family on the northern frontier of the Western Han. Her father is a low-ranking soldier stationed at the border, while her mother stays home mending the soldiers' clothes to earn a little extra. She also has two younger siblings who are still toddlers.
At home, the rice jar is almost empty, and the purse rattles with only a few coins...
Her younger siblings are desperate for meat, and she wants to buy herself a fashionable new ruqun, too.
So Zhu Sui decides to return to her old line of work: trade.
Drawing on her former talents, she gradually builds her business into something big.
She has it all: spices and fruit from the Western Regions, fine horses from Dayuan, leather and feathered banners from the Western Sea, red pomegranates from Tashkent, and fire-resistant cloth from Rome. Even the great merchants of Chang'an are scrambling to buy from her.
Green-eyed foreigners with bushy beards keep asking when the gold and silk from Guanzhong will arrive. They want to buy even more!
And her family's life gets better and better.
