Nanmen Ting is an ordinary high school sophomore with thoroughly average grades, deeply influenced by her parents' laid-back, middle-of-the-road philosophy.
Until one day, she opened the bathroom door at home and discovered that the other side led to a city of monsters.
She automatically acquired commercial property in the city of monsters, along with the ability to travel freely between two worlds.
She thought a tremendous stroke of luck had come her way, but when Nanmen Ting saw that she had only one month left to live, she fell into deep thought.
This won't do! She hasn't lived enough yet!
Luckily, the city of monsters came with a life-extension System. Each time she upgraded her convenience store, she'd gain more lifespan.
Nanmen Ting rubbed her hands together and decided to upgrade as fast as she could, so she could live to a ripe old age!
But looking at the dismal business in her convenience store, she fell into deep thought.
With only half a day left to live, Nanmen Ting decided to go out and force people to buy things. Survival came first.
A strange little shop opened in a run-down neighborhood of the city of monsters. It had nothing inside but a human child and three pieces of ordinary junk.
The monsters took one look and hurried away.
Until a completely exhausted wage slave was threatened by their boss and went in to buy something.
The shop soon earned a reputation as a scam in the city of monsters.
Nanmen Ting got the lifespan she wanted! But customers were few, and her income barely covered her expenses.
And so she embarked on a one-way journey of going to school by day and being warmly hospitable by night (robbing people in their homes).
But...
You customer with four tails, why are you paying for things with rancid nutrient solution?
Customer with something stashed in your cheek pouches! No shoplifting!
A mob of disorganized, undisciplined hooligans! No petting the shopkeeper's head after paying!
One day, a little monster accidentally fell into Nanmen Ting's clutches. It paid with study materials, and she discovered that study materials were extraordinarily valuable.
Nanmen Ting, forced to study after receiving the city of monsters' special edition study materials: Wait! She's just an average high school student! She doesn't need to study all this!
Convenience Store System (showing her the lifespan exchange chart): Yes, you do.
Ever since she started accepting study materials, the number of customers skyrocketed, and her lifespan shot up. Nanmen Ting was busier than ever.
But there were more and more hooligans, and she needed more and more of the city of monsters' special edition study materials.
Later, a legend spread through the city of monsters: The stuff sold at the scam shop was exceptionally high quality, but unbelievably expensive. Luckily, you could trade study materials for it. Just give the shopkeeper study materials, and she'll glare at you fiercely. Don't panic. Just grab your goods and stroll out as if you own the place.
Nanmen Ting, forced to immerse herself in a sea of books: ?
Nanmen Ting's parents inherited an apartment building and immediately started living a FIRE lifestyle. Their only concern was their only daughter, Nanmen Ting.
Nanmen Ting had been frail and sickly since childhood. She didn't like studying and had no other hobbies, so at a young age, she skipped thirty years of detours and started living just like they did.
Until one day, Nanmen Ting's parents realized she had changed. The usually listless Nanmen Ting had become full of energy. Not only had her grades improved, but she was much healthier, too.
Her parents were finally at ease and entrusted her with managing the shops on the ground floor of their building.
Nanmen Ting, who had somehow acquired yet another shop: Her energy came from outsmarting the hooligans, her grades improved because her lifespan depended on it, and she got healthier from constantly dealing with shoplifters! It's not because she has a hardworking spirit!
Years later, she looked at her lifespan balance, which had already topped a hundred million, the shops she owned all over the place, and the countless new things she had learned.
She closed her eyes. At first, all she wanted was to stay alive.
