Working as an OB-GYN in Another World

After the Calamity, human genes fused with those of alien beasts, giving rise to Sentinels and Guides.

Humanity waged a grueling war against the alien beasts.

Beneath this sweeping epic, an industry was quietly taking shape.

After genetic fusion, one person's genes were no more similar to another person's than to a banana's.

In an era when the population exceeded ten billion, statistics showed that a person could match with no more than ten others.

And so the Towers were built, and the matching system was introduced.

Yun Shu was an S-rank Guide.

She could provide mental guidance to Sentinels, but she was also a doctor.

An obstetrician.

Her job was to solve the little problems that came up in the lives of Sentinels and Guides after they got together.

Octopus Sentinel: She doesn't want my spermatophore.

Seahorse Guide: He doesn't have a brood pouch to hold my eggs.

Behind her screen, Yun Shu took notes as she soothed them. "This isn't a serious problem. I recommend using an incubator."

Mantis Sentinel: I promise I absolutely won't eat him.

Anglerfish Guide: Darling, that's not eating. It's called absorption.

Yun Shu gave a small cough. "For both your safety, I recommend artificial reproduction."

Penguin Sentinel: What happened to my egg?

Cuckoo Guide: I left it with the old guy next door.

Yun Shu: ...
