A little story about a lively, cheerful princess and a cool, aloof Imperial Preceptor: from their first meeting as children to discovering their love for each other, and the hardships they face along the way.
The neglected little princess once stumbled upon the young Imperial Preceptor, who was always away from home. From then on, she started pestering him. As she grew up, the Imperial Preceptor grew more and more accustomed to having the clingy little thing around. But the Xiongnu in the north would not stay quiet forever. As they grew stronger, their chieftain demanded that a princess be sent to marry into his tribe, or war would break out. At the time, the Xia Kingdom was in decline and could not withstand a war, so it had no choice but to agree. The little princess was chosen. As the day of her wedding drew closer, the Imperial Preceptor finally could no longer suppress his feelings. On the day she was to be married, he switched her with someone else and saved her.
He had broken the Imperial Preceptor's code: an Imperial Preceptor must not love. But so what? If she were sent to marry into the Xiongnu, their chieftain would torture her to death. He would rather be punished, would rather die himself, than let her go to that godforsaken place.
Later, he made a bold decision. If the current emperor could neither make the people happy nor keep the country at peace, then what harm was there in replacing him? The Fifth Prince seemed like a good choice. Though young, he loved his country and its people. His little princess was better off staying out of this mess. He could leave the affairs of the court to the prince, while she could go on being her lively, cheerful self. (There's actually another twist later in the story, and some things in the middle aren't mentioned here, but I don't feel like writing them out. Just think of them as future plot points that haven't been spoiled! Anyway, it has a happy ending.)
Note: This is the author's first time writing a story, so there are bound to be some rough spots. Please be understanding if you notice any, and thank you to everyone who reads this book. If it's not to your taste, please don't leave nasty comments.
