Fortune in Every Season

Siji is the fifth child of the Yang family, and has just reached marrying age.

His family is poor, and they eat nothing but cornmeal porridge at every meal. It's left him with big eyes and a pointed chin, and he gets hungry whenever he sees food. Matchmakers have practically worn down the doorsteps of other boys his age, but people say Siji's hollow cheeks mean he has no good fortune, so no one has ever come to propose.

His mother is gone, his father is old, and his siblings are all married. No one is looking out for him, so Siji has to figure things out for himself.

The old Li family in the neighboring village is doing well. Their eldest son is tall and handsome, but he fell and hurt his head while working a couple of years ago, and became a fool. He still hasn't found a wife.

Siji gritted his teeth and decided to marry him. Not for any other reason than that he would get three filling meals a day, and wouldn't have to drink that thin, tasteless porridge anymore.

In spring, fragrant flowers bloomed across the hills, and Siji married the Li family's fool.

In summer, lotus blossoms dotted the lush green meadows, and Siji became pregnant with the fool's child.

In autumn, golden marigolds shone brilliantly, and Siji ate with relish, his pregnant belly growing round.

In winter, as great white flakes of snow swirled through the air, Siji gave birth to a chubby little girl, making the fool dance with joy.

Though the fool was foolish, he treated Siji wonderfully, and Siji didn't regret marrying him one bit.

But in the spring of the following year, before the fragrant flowers could bloom, the fool regained his senses.

Li Ning'an felt as if he'd been asleep for a very long time. When he finally woke up, he found that he had a gluttonous, fair-skinned little husband, who had even given birth to a chubby baby for him.

Notes:

1. Childbirth is involved. Sweet romance.

2. Marriage before love, and a baby before love.

Theme: Keep your feet firmly on the ground, and build a prosperous life.
