The Entire Court Are My Ancestors

College student Zhao Chuxia transmigrates to the Song Dynasty in her sleep, appearing out of nowhere in the Hall of Diligent Governance, Emperor Shenzong Zhao Xu's bedchamber.

She wakes up sharing a bed with the emperor.

Just as she assumes she's landed in a palace-intrigue story and starts dreaming of becoming empress, the young emperor opens his eyes, pulls her into his arms, and says with a benevolent smile, “My child, I shall make you a princess at once.”

Looking at the emperor, who is about her own age, Zhao Chuxia senses trouble. Is he planning to send her off in a political marriage?

What she doesn't know yet is that every official at court has suddenly acquired a family tree in his mind, revealing that she is their direct descendant.

Zhao Chuxia, the newly appointed eldest princess of the Song Dynasty in Emperor Shenzong's reign, is twenty years old and graceful. Emperor Shenzong dotes on her. During the Xining Third Year, Gengxu examination, he picks the third-place candidate, the Palace Graduate, as her husband.

The Palace Graduate wails, “You absolutely mustn't! The princess and I are blood relatives!”

Settling for his next choice, Emperor Shenzong turns to Ouyang Xiu and says, “Yongshu, I hear your youngest son is about the same age as the princess...”

Ouyang Xiu weeps bitterly. “You absolutely mustn't! My fourth son, Bian, is closely related to the princess.”

Emperor Shenzong looks around at the officials and is about to speak when the whole court cries out in alarm, “You absolutely mustn't!” Direct descendants are forbidden to marry, no matter how many generations apart they are!

Zhao Chuxia: “...” Another day, another failure to find a husband.

At court, the reformists led by Wang Anshi and the conservatives headed by Sima Guang argue fiercely over the reforms.

Emperor Shenzong rubs his temples and immediately appoints Zhao Chuxia Grand Princess Regent, entrusting her with governing the country.

Zhao Chuxia enters the Hall of Vertical Archways and sits below the Dragon Throne. “Fathers, stop arguing. The historical reforms had both benefits and drawbacks. Let me explain them to you.”

The officials: “Child, sit on the Dragon Throne before you explain.”

Zhao Chuxia, somehow being pushed onto the throne: “???”

P.S. This is my version of the Song Dynasty, not historical fiction. Anything that doesn't match history is the author's own invention.

Theme: Nothing particularly profound.
