Synopsis
In her previous life, she was Xia Weirui, the Third Prince's Consort and the legitimate daughter of a powerful ministerial clan. But after placing her trust in her husband, Duan Li, she saw her entire family executed and died a horrible death in prison.
Only moments before she died did she learn the truth: Duan Li had long been secretly involved with her former close friend, Meng Cujin, and was even plotting to usurp the throne!
When she opened her eyes again, she had been reborn ten years earlier, still the innocent and carefree Fourth Young Lady of the Minister's household, Xia Weirui.
In this life, she hides her sweet, naive side behind a mask of cunning. Within the household, she schemes at every turn, exposes her concubine aunt's hypocrisy, crushes her half-sister's schemes, and turns the Minister's household upside down. At court, she uses every advantage to set her plans in motion, vowing to make Duan Li and Meng Cujin pay for their crimes in blood!
As she stands in the mourning hall, dressed in white and carrying out her revenge with her own hands, Duan Fanzhi, heir to Prince Zhuang and a notorious playboy, comes looking for her. *He watches her with an inscrutable smile. "Fourth Miss Xia, your performance is far more compelling than anything a theater troupe could offer."
She thinks he's come to ruin everything, but instead he places the knife in her palm:
"Revenge is only satisfying when you take it yourself. But..." He leans close and whispers in her ear, "When it comes to killing, this heir is much more skilled."
A pair of scheming black lotuses: a calculating, reborn imperial consort x a cunning heir. They test each other at every turn before joining forces as equals.
A high-stakes revenge plot: household battles and political intrigue, with every enemy suffering the consequences of their own actions.
A swoon-worthy romance: from using each other to entrusting each other with their lives, an irresistible game of advance and retreat.
A poised young lady in public, a venomous beauty in private, she loves nothing more than smiling as she sends her enemies to their deaths.
A seemingly idle heir who is really the one moving the pieces, willingly becoming the sharpest blade at her side.
One chapter a day, as usual.
Theme: Xia Weirui's transformation from an innocent noblewoman into a avenger reborn through fire shows how women awaken and resist when driven to desperation. She refuses to be confined to the narrow world of the inner quarters and dares to stir the winds of the court with her own delicate hands. Duan Li's hypocrisy, Meng Cujin's greed, and her half-sister's malice all ultimately rebound on them. The story reveals the timeless truth that justice always prevails and retribution never fails. Duan Fanzhi has been moving the pieces for two lifetimes, yet is willing to sacrifice his own pieces and concede defeat for her. Along this road of revenge, they go from using each other to entrusting each other with their lives, proving that only true affection can heal the wounds of betrayal.
