Qiao Manqiu had been a volunteer on an app called Be My Eyes for a long time, where she met a visually impaired woman named Xiaoyu.
Qiao Manqiu helped Xiaoyu with everyday tasks, listened to her stories, and patiently offered her encouragement. She became Xiaoyu's "eyes."
One afternoon, Qiao Manqiu went up to the rooftop to bring in the blankets and saw someone sitting on the edge. She immediately wrapped her arms around the woman's waist from behind, and, overcome with emotion, said, "Don't jump! Please, don't jump!"
The woman turned to look at her, but her eyes didn't focus or settle on her. She said softly, "I wasn't going to jump."
Qiao Manqiu recognized her voice and froze. "Xiaoyu?"
