How a Storybook Villain Disguises Himself as an Ordinary Background Character

When Ye Jingyu discovered that the world was a comic, he'd just been written into a death scene.

To spur the male lead's awakening, the story's greatest villain organization, the Men in Black, brutally murdered him.

Ye Jingyu tilted his head. ?

Ye Jingyu's parents had both died, leaving him and his older brother to depend on each other. His brother died three years ago, and he had been alone ever since.

A few days ago, he discovered that his brother had come back to life

The birthmark on his wrist was still there, but his brother treated him with cool indifference, like a stranger.

Only then did Ye Jingyu learn that he and his brother were minor characters in a hot-blooded shonen manga.

The male lead had transmigrated into his brother's body, taken over his identity, and would use Ye Jingyu's death to awaken and begin his journey to power.

The comic's forum was in a frenzy:

[The younger brother's sacrifice makes you unstoppable!]

[The twins: one of them always has to die.]

[The Man in Black is insanely cool. His skills are top-tier, a total steamroll! He's definitely a final-boss-level character!]

Ye Jingyu crawled out of the flames and saw his brother's indifferent figure walking away.

His life, peaceful for more than ten years, was suddenly shattered. Amid the clouds of dust, a man in black crept over and knelt at Ye Jingyu's feet. "Master, what would you like me to do?"

Spirit Trace Esper Academy is currently a hit supernatural school manga.

At first, Ye Jingyu was just an inconspicuous transfer student.

He was assigned to sit beside the male lead, Yun Che. Quiet and withdrawn, he seemed like a transparent background character.

As the story progressed, he became the most hated character in the whole manga: useless, a burden, why doesn't he just die?

The forum was filled with insults, and readers gritted their teeth as they waited for him to be written out.

In the final chapter, the entire protagonist group lay gravely wounded. Only the male lead, Yun Che, remained standing.

He was drenched in blood and had exhausted his supernatural power, but still stood firmly in front of the passageway.

"...Go!" he shouted to Ye Jingyu, who was trembling in a corner.

The forum erupted with even more abuse:

[Is Yun Che blind?]

[Is this useless guy worth saving?]

[Don't worry, a background character like this won't survive long. He'll be written out any minute now.]

Just as the black-clad leader's blade was about to pierce Yun Che's back,

Ye Jingyu raised his head.

The next second, he smiled.

The arrogant villain leader suddenly fell to his knees and said respectfully, "Master."

As everyone stared in disbelief, Ye Jingyu walked toward Yun Che, then laid a long sword against his neck.

"Now," he said softly, "can you give my brother back to me?"

When the truth was revealed and the commotion died away,

"Am I a bad person?" Ye Jingyu asked, standing among the corpses beneath his feet.

A snow-clad figure crouched down and carefully wiped the blood from his fingertips. "They were the ones who wronged you."

After wiping them clean, he still didn't let go. "You haven't had your milk today."

The villain who had seemed so arrogant only moments ago lowered his noble head. "...I don't want milk."

Xue Mobai held Ye Jingyu's slender, fair fingers, lacing them together with care and reverence. "Perhaps you'd prefer strawberry milk?"

The two walked away together, leaving everything behind.

In this hot-blooded shonen manga, the minor character Ye Jingyu lost a great deal. At least someone stayed by his side and never left.
