This novel:
Brooding, deranged, lovesick Imperial Guard x clever, level-headed, scheming fake heiress
The eldest daughter of the Duke's mansion, missing for more than twenty years, had finally been found. The whole city was celebrating, and gossip was everywhere.
Jiang Fumei, however, was not happy. She knew she was an impostor.
What she didn't know was that the truth was also known to her nominal older brother, the Duke's notorious, sinister heir and Commander of the Imperial Guard, Ye Xu.
Ye Xu was as cruel as a snake and as elusive as a ghost. He always showed up wherever Jiang Fumei happened to be, in ways she could never predict, looking down on her, humiliating her, and showing no mercy.
“As your little sister, you should obey your big brother in everything. Whatever I want, you have to give me.”
“I'm your brother. What's wrong with me showing up in your bedroom?”
The blood feud between their families left Jiang Fumei with no choice but to bow her head. She needed Ye Xu. She would make him the sharpest blade and most effective sword in her hands, to kill those she hated, stain the imperial court with blood, and leave no way back.
Every day and night after arriving in the capital was an ordeal. Jiang Fumei spent her days maneuvering through schemes and calculations, struggling between life and death. She drew everyone into her plans, but never imagined that one day Ye Xu would slip from her control.
When he learned that he was nothing but a blade to her, Ye Xu went mad.
Before everyone's eyes, he dragged her away. His cool hand clamped around Jiang Fumei's delicate chin and pinned her against a carved window. He stroked it slowly, as if she were a fine piece of jade, smooth, warm, and fragile.
“Dear little sister, I can be more than your blade. I can be yours, too.”
Jiang Fumei was both shocked and afraid. She was shocked by the fire burning in Ye Xu's eyes, and afraid because the hatred she was supposed to feel for him had become difficult to hold on to.
So Jiang Fumei shamefully ran away. She gave herself so much work that she barely slept, exhausting herself as she manipulated the tides of power and brought one court official after another down, dismantling the Regent's careful plans time and again. But when she was at the end of her rope, she realized that the only thought in her mind was:
“Brother, save me.”
It turned out that the person who had always been her invincible support was him. They were like two little beasts struggling to survive in a mire, bound by the same fate: either they died together, or they survived together.
Their entanglement was destined to be complicated and intoxicating, and to last until death.
Then the Regent rebelled, and the palace became a battlefield of flashing blades and chaos. After spending countless sleepless nights saving her cousin, Jiang Fumei finally saw Ye Xu.
Before she could say a word, he pulled her into a crushing embrace. Covered in blood and menace, he glared viciously at her cousin and ground out, “We're getting married. Now!”
Jiang Fumei looked up through the blood and grime, wearing her most relieved smile.
She said, “All right.”
