The City Lord of one of the thirty-two underground cities, Satoru Gojo, has a well-known secret: he once had a lover he never quite defined, who disappeared ten years ago.

An expedition team went missing and never returned. The long wait was enough to wear away the memory of someone presumed dead. Just when everyone thought Satoru had finally moved on, he quietly kept Suguru Geto’s identity on record.

Then, on an otherwise peaceful day underground, a nearly abandoned portal delivered a message ten years late.

Of the 128 people who set out, only one came back, bearing a message so brief it could hardly be shorter: Cursed spirits can give birth to life, and humanity may soon be replaced by them.

Suguru Geto had imagined dying, and could even list a hundred ways he might meet his end. But he never imagined he would survive, only to lose his memory.

When he woke, he had lost everything, including his legal identity. The expedition leader, who should have been admired by all, had become a suspect hated by everyone. And he was not innocent.

False identity, false name.

Falsified applications, coercing his peers.

Unknown origins, unclear motives.

He had done all of those things before losing his memory.

Amnesiac Suguru lay numb in his hospital bed, questioning his life, with an irritating attendant at his side who also happened to be his college almost-lover.

His status as a Special Grade sorcerer kept him out of prison. And with his arrival, nameless currents began stirring in the underground city.

Please note:

1. This is a futuristic fantasy apocalypse story, so it will inevitably include situations that do not entirely conform to conventional morality.

2. The amnesia trope is real, and so is the deception.

3. After losing his memory, Suguru will rebuild his relationship with Satoru and act in ways that fit his circumstances, but there will be no third party in their romance.

4. There are supporting characters with substantial roles in the main plot, but they will not overshadow the leads.

5. The author is a struggling student and updates are irregular. Reading before the story is complete comes with some risk.
