Character setup: laid-back, pampered girl ★ cold male lead
Blurb:
Shi Yun is a couch potato.
Her family says that when she was little, she wouldn't wake up even when it was time to feed her. If she was hungry or needed a diaper change, she'd only whimper twice. She showed signs of wanting to lie flat from the time she was a child.
As she grew up, Shi Yun did indeed display all the traits of a couch potato: no ambition and content to let things stay as they were.
Fortunately, she was born into a comfortable, well-off family. Her parents loved her just as much despite her being ordinary and unremarkable, and even mapped out her path as she grew up.
Sure enough, Shi Yun grew up to be the family's precious little girl.
Her life went smoothly. She grew up, studied, fell in love, broke up, and got a job, all according to plan.
Then, before she knew it, she was old enough to get married.
Her parents never pressured her to marry. They were happy to support her for life.
But they encouraged her to try a blind date for the experience, just for fun.
Shi Yun once again showed her couch-potato nature: she wasn't enthusiastic or proactive, but she didn't object either.
When she got home from the blind date, her parents asked if it had been fun.
Lying limp on the sofa, the couch potato said lazily, "He wants to date me."
"What!?" Her parents were stunned. This blind date's qualifications were practically top-tier.
They'd never expected their daughter to win him over.
Shi Yun, the couch potato, said, "But he's about to become our company's new boss, and the company doesn't allow office romances."
Wen Ting had lived abroad for a long time and was especially opposed to blind dates back home.
Of the ten blind dates his family arranged, he'd turned down nine.
Unable to get him to budge, his family compromised and asked him to meet one last potential match. After that, they wouldn't pressure him again.
Wen Ting compromised too, agreeing to have dinner with the person they'd arranged for him to meet.
Unexpectedly, this blind date was kind of interesting.
Right off the bat, she confessed that she was a pampered family darling, a couch potato, unambitious, without any particular hobbies or talents, not outstanding, just perfectly ordinary.
But in Wen Ting's eyes, she was emotionally stable, natural and easygoing, and considerate with a good sense of boundaries.
She was relaxed and radiant, confident without being abrasive, and her sense of self-worth didn't depend on others. She was even a little funny.
She wasn't lacking in good qualities at all. In fact, she had a whole heap of them.
When he got home, his family had already given up hope and couldn't even be bothered to ask how the blind date went.
But Wen Ting asked first, "Aren't you going to ask how it went?"
The entire family exchanged frantic looks like spies signaling to each other. Their eyes lit up: There's a chance!
After being talked into it all day, Wen Ting let the words slip: "I'm thinking of dating that couch potato... I mean, Miss Shi."
For the first time, Shi Yun couldn't sleep the night before work.
Wen Ting finally couldn't take it anymore. He rolled over, draped a leg over her restless legs, and asked with his eyes closed, "Can't sleep?"
Shi Yun stared at the ceiling. "Are we about to start an office-marriage-in-secret story arc?"
Wen Ting replied calmly, "Yeah."
Shi Yun's heart began to race, but she feigned calm. "The company doesn't allow office romances."
Wen Ting opened his eyes. "There are plenty of good jobs in the world, but there's only one you."
The couch potato unlocked a new skill: blushing.
