Hu Zexiu is a bystander NPC who inexplicably awakens to his own existence. His greatest wish in life is to live to a ripe old age in a dangerous comic. But today, gangsters have a shootout at his doorstep; tomorrow, a curse spirit is killing people at school. When he finally wins a hot spring getaway, he gets caught up in a murder case.
With nowhere else to turn, Hu Zexiu runs to complain to the older man who operates a clinic downstairs. In a dejected voice, he says offhandedly, “Uncle, I’ll help you assassinate the boss. Let’s take over Yokohama.”
And then... Hu Zexiu goes from unemployed drifter to miserable corporate drone (sob).
Here’s the chuuni version of the blurb:
“Chaos is the beginning of every revolution.”
The boy’s messy hair framed eyes that shone with extraordinary brightness. Lowering his voice, he seemed to mutter to himself, speaking with bold, extreme conviction. “Night. Yokohama’s night is far too long. We should do something to bring the white night. If death is waiting tomorrow, why not sound the horn of dawn now?”
The boy spoke each word slowly, then turned to look at Mori Ougai. His pitch-black eyes were like a still, bottomless well. Look deep enough, and was there a battlefield of slaughter, or a desolate wilderness? Ambition, a raging fire of resentment and desire, threatened to consume Mori Ougai. One glance was all it took for the two monsters to recognize one another as kindred spirits.
