The third young master of the Nanze prefectural house, Xie Ting, is a notorious little menace whom everyone avoids.
In public, the young master Xie is idle and troublesome, flirting with handsome men and beautiful women and making enemies everywhere.
At home, he's spoiled and arrogant, learns nothing, spends money like dirt, and turns the whole household upside down.
His father grabs a whip. "You good-for-nothing spendthrift!"
Xie Ting: "Father, if you can't afford to keep me, just sell the three treasure mountains in Nanze Prefecture and you'll never have to worry again."
His father can take no more and gives him a beating, then ties him up that very night and stuffs him into a bridal sedan to be sent to the Gao family as their live-in son-in-law.
Xie Ting is delighted. "I'm free!"
His joy turns to sorrow: the wedding procession is ambushed by bandits.
As the saying goes: Nanze's mountains and rivers nourish its people, and Nanze's people nourish its bandits.
These bandits are strong and brawny, and they chop people up like chicks. Knowing his life is precious, Xie Ting runs for it, but he can't outrun them and gets surrounded. Luckily, a righteous hero appears from nowhere and saves his life!
But a new storm soon follows.
The hero won't let go, his eyes like a hungry wolf's. "Be my wife."
Xie Ting: "..."
How could a dignified young master of the prefectural house marry an unknown nobody? What a disgrace!
So he gets the other man drunk, leaves behind a jade pendant as thanks for saving his life, and runs away.
A year later, Xie Ting is ordered (forced) to fight the bandits.
But what would someone who's spent his whole life eating, drinking, and having fun know about fighting? Sure enough, he falls into the bandits' lair in less than three days.
Just as he cries out that Heaven is unjust, the blade still doesn't come down on his neck.
He looks up, and his heart trembles.
Why is the man who once saved his life sitting on that throne?!
Bandit king Chu Mo leans against his throne and smiles at the face he's longed for day and night:
"Long time no see, my homeless wife."
Xie Ting refuses to back down. "Homeless, my ass! My assets are enough to buy this whole mountain!"
A vein throbs in Chu Mo's forehead. He'll stop at nothing to make Xie Ting his.
Under the threat of his authority, Xie Ting has no choice but to acknowledge the bandit as his husband.
What a disgrace, an absolute disgrace!
One dark and windy night, he creeps to Chu Mo's bedside with a knife...
