In every horror story, there's always a character like this: beautiful as a fragile glass doll, so delicate that a gust of wind could knock them down, yet foolishly kind, caught between a crowd of male characters. Without meaning to, they stoke conflict within the group, then die a miserable death just to grab the audience's attention.
Jing Ci was, unfortunately, exactly that kind of character.
Until one day, as he sat in the car of his blond boyfriend, the baseball team captain, he suddenly awakened to his own existence.
Rain warped the windshield into twisted patterns. Staring at his own pale, terrified face in the rearview mirror, he suddenly felt a clear, piercing fear, something he had never experienced while under the control of the plot.
He began to fear and tremble.
Yet the force of the plot drove him onward: trapped with a group of friends straight out of a horror movie in a rain-soaked mountain wilderness, he had no choice but to take shelter in a dark castle whose sinister outline loomed like a giant beast.
Those clammy gazes, those reflections lurking deep inside the mirrors, those eerie carvings...
Their gazes were feverish and greedy, filled with undisguised lust and malice.
They wanted him dead.
People were forced into this horror game, an endless night, and struggled to survive in one terrifying instance after another.
Gradually, some realized that every instance contained an NPC who was far too beautiful:
He was alluring and aloof, yet touched with a hint of innocence, like a frozen rose sealed inside a glass case. Whenever the plot demanded it, monsters killed him again and again, vividly performing the beauty of death and violence.
Players feared his beauty, so otherworldly it seemed inhuman, yet were obsessed with the beads of blood clinging to his lashes as he lay dying.
They called him the Virtual Rose.
