After losing his job, the planet registered under Jiang Qichi's name exploded. It literally blew up.

With what little money he had left, he moved to a remote planet and spent his days doing nothing.

On his first day there, Jiang Qichi found a "person." That night, the "person" pointed a gun at his head and demanded viciously, "Who are you?"

Jiang Qichi, meanwhile, stared at the pair of ears that had appeared out of nowhere.

Had he... accidentally brought home a tiger? And not just any tiger, but the leader of a beastkin base?

From then on, he began life taming a little tiger.

A few months later, a fluffy tiger tail brushed against Jiang Qichi's arm again and again. The little tiger held him tight in his arms.

"Chief Designer, don't go."

Xia Xingye lowered his head and buried his face against Jiang Qichi's neck. "Please."

This human was amazing, the Federation's chief starship and mecha design engineer.

But the little human had a bad reputation. People often said he had no real talent, and had only gotten to be chief designer because of his looks and connections...

If everyone in the Federation said that, then Xia Xingye couldn't very well compete with them for him, right?

Xia Xingye thought Jiang Qichi was the best human there was.

Not long afterward, a civilian army emerged on a remote little planet. Its mechas and starships were more advanced, and its firepower even surpassed the Federation military's.

Oddly enough, all the mechas had strange decorations on their heads that looked like... animal ears.

Under the astonished gazes of the Federation's people, Xia Xingye cut off communications with two starships.

The expressionless Jiang Qichi from a moment before affectionately stroked his ears and said with a smile, "Come here and let me brush your fur."

Xu Yicheng stared at that string of letters and numbers and took a deep breath.

One game was all it took to remember a man for the rest of his life.

Later, the two ran into each other in ranked. Following the most basic rules of courtesy, Xu Yicheng greeted him "amicably," only to get a chilly reply:

"Who are you?"

From then on, the two were sworn enemies.

At every match, win or lose, their fans got into fights, and the clashes were so fierce that the sides couldn't stand each other.

Who could have imagined that just a few months later, these two would become teammates?
