Everyone knew they'd had a passionate relationship.
But no one knew that Lin Shuyu was the one who dumped Pei Yuli.
It was raining hard the day they broke up.
Pei Yuli clutched her wrist and glanced at the man beside her. His voice was almost painfully restrained. "You're going with him?"
Lin Shuyu said nothing. She pulled her hand free and walked away.
Pei Yuli stood in the downpour and watched her take shelter under that man's umbrella. They disappeared from sight, huddled together.
Back then, she had fluttered beneath his umbrella like a butterfly, making their hearts beat in sync.
Now the butterfly beat its wings and flew away.

When they meet again, Pei Yuli is still the favored darling of the crowd.
Lin Shuyu has just returned from abroad and is invited to a party. Her business partners keep pressing drinks on her, and she can't easily refuse. Just as the glass reaches her lips, Pei Yuli takes it from her and drinks in her place.
Someone asks, "Do you two know each other?"
Pei Yuli's expression is calm as he answers coldly, "We don't."
Lin Shuyu smiles and goes along with it, but the moment she lowers her head, her eyes turn red.
One night later on, Lin Shuyu is still awake at three in the morning.
On impulse, she calls him. She hears his heavy breathing.
She comes to her senses, stunned to realize she's crossed a line.
Just as she's about to hang up, his low, hoarse voice reaches her ear. "Talk to me."
At once, tears roll from her eyes. She softly murmurs his name: "Pei Yuli."
I miss you.
But she doesn't say it aloud.
Four in the morning.
Pei Yuli appears at her home and pulls her into his arms. His familiar scent fills her nostrils, and his low voice murmurs against her ear: "Lin Shuyu, don't ever think you can leave me again."
He lowers his head and leaves kiss marks all over her.
Like the butterfly that once bit into that vivid summer and made it ache.
