The Wealthy Omega’s Groveling Pursuit of the Alpha

For three years of high school, Pei Shijin spent two and a half years as heiress Lu Yixue's lackey, while secretly and carefully crushing on her for just as long.

Lu Yixue was the apple of the Lu family's eye: elegant, refined, and dazzling. Pei Shijin, by contrast, was like dust in the mud, spending every day struggling to pay off debt and stay alive.

She thought the farewell after graduation would be the last time she ever saw Lu Yixue. It never occurred to her that their paths might cross again.

Then, while she was selling her pheromones at a hospital, Lu Yixue's family approached her with a proposal: enter into a marriage contract with Lu Yixue.

It turned out that Lu Yixue had a hereditary genetic disease. The only way she could live a healthy, normal life was to bond with an Alpha whose pheromones were a 100% match and have a child with her.

Lu Yixue's family cleared all of Pei Shijin's debts, and made sure her mother got the best hospital room and treatment. Pei Shijin had no reason to refuse.

At the time, Pei Shijin was giddy with excitement, grateful for the mercy of the gods.

By day, she attended to Lu Yixue's every need, cooking for her and holding an umbrella over her. At night, she tried every way she could to make Lu Yixue feel good and happy.

Yet Lu Yixue never smiled at her.

By chance, Pei Shijin overheard Lu Yixue describing her to a friend: "A scheming woman who'll do anything to climb into high society. Disgusting. I'm only putting up with her for my family."

By then, their daughter was three years old, and Lu Yixue's genetic disease had been completely cured.

Pei Shijin sat alone all night. The next day, she left behind a signed divorce agreement and walked away on her own.

*

Lu Yixue had always thought Pei Shijin was the sort of person who would stop at nothing for money. She readily enjoyed the warmth and tenderness Pei Shijin gave her, yet begrudged her even the smallest smile.

When she saw the empty house and the divorce agreement, Lu Yixue treated it as nothing more than a burden gone. She had people erase every trace of Pei Shijin.

Everyone else was tactful enough never to mention Pei Shijin in front of Lu Yixue.

Until, at a banquet, she saw Pei Shijin standing beside another Omega. A child she didn't recognize held Pei Shijin's hand and called her Mommy, while Pei Shijin gave the other mother and daughter everything that had once belonged to her.

Blurb:

Zhu Shuchi was the playmate of Wen Tan, the eldest daughter of the Wen family.

When Zhu Shuchi was eight, little Wen Tan helped chase away the bad guys and took her and her mother in. From then on, Zhu Shuchi lived under Wen Tan's protection, looking up to her radiant light.

She always wanted to repay Wen Tan. She followed her everywhere, ready to do whatever Wen Tan asked, never leaving her side.

When Wen Tan was diagnosed with pheromone-induced bipolar disorder at seventeen, she needed a highly compatible Alpha to provide her with pheromones every day until a medication could be developed. Zhu Shuchi happened to meet the requirements, and volunteered.

The Wen family gave her a generous reward and warned her not to develop feelings she shouldn't have.

But the force of a young girl's secret love, combined with the temptation of their pheromones, proved too much. When Wen Tan asked her to make love, Zhu Shuchi couldn't help responding.

By day, she was the movie-star Wen Tan's assistant, passing herself off as a diligent Beta and never crossing the line.

At night, she held Wen Tan close, claiming and marking her with restraint, careful not to leave a trace.

The Wen family and Wen Tan's fans alike believed her Alpha should be a distinguished person from a prominent family, with striking looks and exceptional talent.

Even Zhu Shuchi thought that dust could only dim a precious pearl. She wanted Wen Tan to shine forever, while selfishly hoping she could stay by Wen Tan's side forever, too.

When the medication was finally developed, the Wen family arranged dates for Wen Tan. Still, every night she returned to the home they shared, where she and Zhu Shuchi would lose themselves in each other and fall asleep in one another's arms.

Zhu Shuchi wanted to pretend she knew nothing, even if it meant being a despised secret lover.

Then she overheard Wen Tan confiding in a friend: "Achi is pretty useful in every way, but she doesn't seem to be useful anymore. I really don't know what to do with her."

Ever considerate, Zhu Shuchi left a resignation letter and vanished from Wen Tan's world.

At first, Wen Tan breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that Zhu Shuchi had known when to leave.

But after countless nights of waking up and reaching for the person beside her, only to find nothing, Wen Tan could only lie awake until dawn.

Only then did she realize: the new medicine could cure her illness, but it couldn't save her life.

Reader's Guide:

1. Any potential triggers I can think of are already in the blurb. This is a sweet romance about two emotionally healthy people who can communicate. The sweetness is on the subtle side.

2. An alternate-universe ABO setting. Female Alphas have no accessories. Anything that doesn't match reality is made up. Please don't apply the characters' values or behavior to real life.

3. This is my first time writing a groveling romance, so I'm not sure how intense it should be. Feel free to criticize, but I'm sensitive and don't read the comments.

4. The characters' values do not represent the author's.

Theme: Equal love is healthy love.
