[This is an extremely melodramatic story, a tale of revenge that runs on melodrama from beginning to end.]
Ye Jinfeng was once the most gifted senior disciple under the Sword Immortal of the Guixu Sect. He had extraordinary talent and a peerless constitution, and the entire sect regarded him as the Sword Immortal's heir. But he betrayed his sect, abandoned the Dao, practiced forbidden arts, and slaughtered his fellow disciples, becoming a depraved cultivator whom everyone in the cultivation world wanted dead.
Those who harm others eventually bring harm upon themselves. By now, all of Ye Jinfeng's meridians were severed and his constitution destroyed, leaving him an ordinary mortal, no different from anyone else.
He changed his name to Chen Ji and doggedly followed his savior, Shi Canling, until he was captured by Rong Jing, his former junior disciple, who hated him to the bone.
Rong Jing told Shi Canling that between Chen Ji and Shen Jiany, the junior disciple Shi Canling had raised from childhood, he could save only one.
Shi Canling didn't hesitate for a moment. He frowned coldly. “Of course I'll save my junior disciple.”
Ye Jinfeng was utterly devastated.
Once again, he was imprisoned in the dark, damp dungeons of the Guixu Sect, covered in wounds.
Rong Jing gripped his chin and forced him to look up, his gaze dark and sinister. “Senior Brother, have you ever regretted killing our little junior brother that day?”
Ye Jinfeng spat out a mouthful of blood, then suddenly burst into laughter. “I should have killed him long ago, chopped him into pieces, and thrown him into the Demon Realm!”
He had no chance of defying fate anymore. Whether he died peacefully or miserably, he would die either way, so he might as well curse to his heart's content before the end.
But Ye Jinfeng didn't die. Wenren Yin, a reclusive miracle doctor from the Valley of Rebirth, saved him and cared for him with gentle devotion. Only later did he learn that the doctor was Rong Jing's long-cherished beloved, yet Ye Jinfeng had already fallen for the doctor's acceptance.
Their happy days didn't last. Rong Jing tracked them down to the Valley of Rebirth. Seeing how intimate the two of them were, he was consumed with jealousy and threatened Wenren Yin with Ye Jinfeng's life, forcing him to form a bond with Rong Jing.
Ye Jinfeng thought nothing could be more humiliating.
He was wrong.
He lay dazed beside Rong Jing, his heart heavy. While Rong Jing slept soundly, he plunged a knife toward his heart. It barely pierced the skin before a protective mirror sent Ye Jinfeng flying back.
After this serious injury, he had only a few days left to live. Ye Jinfeng had spent years desperately pursuing cultivation, but at last he saw through it all.
Yet even though he had come to understand, everyone around him fell into obsession because of him. To keep him alive by force, they searched the world for rare treasures and stopped at nothing:
Shi Canling, once as cold toward him as ice, now kept a close watch on him, refusing to let him out of sight for even a moment.
Rong Jing, who once wanted to grind his bones to dust, now scoured the most dangerous and remote wastelands in search of the legendary artifact that could prolong his life.
Shen Jiany, who had always granted his every request, now clutched his wrist tightly and forcibly poured his own blood into Ye Jinfeng's throat.
And Wenren Yin, who had always been so considerate, now disregarded Ye Jinfeng's wishes, gently but firmly refusing again and again to let him find release.
Reader's Guide:
1. The love interest has split personalities. Two are good love interests, and two are scum.
2. The love interest is sexually chaste.
3. Happy ending. I can't handle a tragic ending. The life-prolonging arc should be longer than the melodrama arc.
Theme: As long as you live, there is hope.
