This collection begins at episode 12 of the TV series, so some of the details may not fit seamlessly with the original storyline. (Maybe I'll start another story that follows the full plot. Perhaps it will begin with their reunion on a salty, breezy spring day, or maybe with another idea? Either way, I'm not ready to leave this fandom.) In this story, Liu Zaiyi is free, but not entirely; Yu Seulgi still hasn't escaped the shadow of losing Liu Zaiyi. Xiaojing is still partly driven by her determination to prove herself to her mother, while Zhu Yili is still just trying to find another way to keep going. Their futures aren't perfect, but at least they're only just beginning. Liu Zaiyi is working hard to find the strength to protect Yu Seulgi; Yu Seulgi is working hard to give Liu Zaiyi the freedom to choose; Xiaojing is working hard to balance success and justice; Zhu Yili is working hard to hold on to her principles in life...
??That's what I had in mind, but when I started writing, I felt like I might not be good enough to do it justice. I can't make it as good as I'd like. (Especially since the original series is so, so good, and I've also read such amazing stories by other authors.) But writing fanfiction is a joy, because as I write, their story doesn't have to end in my mind.
