After an accident, Ye Huaiyu wakes up inside an unfinished novel, where the System orders her to repair its ruined storyline.
The original novel was a sweet romance with two female leads. To add complications to their relationship, the author introduced a yandere villain. At the end, the villain faked the death of the first female lead, then secretly imprisoned her in a carefully built cell.
At this point in the story, the author despairingly realized that nobody could outsmart this character, the most intelligent person in the entire book. The only way out was to force the villain to die by accidentally electrocuting herself in the cell, let the first female lead escape on her own, and wrap things up with a contrived happy ending.
But this ridiculous bout of character assassination was so absurd that the world of the novel began to collapse.
System: Either figure out how to defeat the villain and rescue the heroine in a logical way, or wait for the world to fall apart and take everyone with it.
The first time Ye Huaiyu saw Mu Jingyi, she gave up on opposing her. The sixteen-year-old girl stood in a corner, thin as a young bamboo shoot. She was at the most carefree age of her life, yet her eyes were as still as a pool of dead water.
Ye Huaiyu arranged to adopt her and brought the villain home to care for her, hoping to change the child's disposition and prevent the tragedy from happening.
Years later, the reclusive villain, who in the original story was adopted by the first female lead after her parents died, had become a wealthy young heiress, treated like royalty. Mu Jingyi was a genius. After graduating early, she turned down a prestigious offer from a research institute and insisted on returning to Ye Huaiyu's side to help run her company.
One day, she happened to run into the first female lead, who was still struggling through odd jobs, and the two got back in touch.
Ye Huaiyu was deeply worried. Every time the two met, she'd sneak off to watch them, afraid her young girl would get something wrong in her head and fall for someone who wasn't hers again.
Her surveillance soon turned up something troubling.
One day, a private investigator sent her an address. Ye Huaiyu hurriedly left a matchmaking banquet and rushed over, only to find that Mu Jingyi had built a secret cell for holding people, just like in the original story.
She shook with rage and turned to leave, only to discover that someone had locked the door.
"Do you like it?" Mu Jingyi asked her in the dark. "I decorated it especially to suit Auntie's tastes."
Ye Huaiyu: "..."
The cell was there, and the imprisonment scene seemed unavoidable, but the person at its center had changed.
Ye Huaiyu caught on and gave a cool snort. She casually took off the two decorative rings on her fingers and tossed them onto the floor.
"After all this time, you still haven't learned your lesson. I suppose you'll have to graduate late."
Mu Jingyi's eyes quivered, but she obediently moved closer and nestled into Ye Huaiyu's arms with practiced ease.
Theme: Be independent and self-reliant.
