It Began with His Disappearance [Mystery]

Blurb:

"Would someone who sticks to a predictable routine, traveling between just two places, ever suddenly change their habits?"

That was what Xia Yang asked me. She's my ex, a passionate and outgoing woman.

I don't want to say much about Xia Yang. When she called me petty and heartlessly dumped me, she never expected she'd come asking for my help.

I really am pettier than a pinhole, but for the sake of her hefty commission, I'll make an exception and open my heart a little wider.

"Could you explain in more detail, Sister Xia Yang?"

That was Xiang Siyan, my assistant, a sweet-natured young man.

Oh, and a quick reminder: he's Xia Yang's ex too.

Unlike me, he doesn't hold a grudge over being the one who got dumped.

Xia Yang's current boyfriend disappeared just one week before they were supposed to get engaged.

On Friday the thirteenth of last month, the man carried a laptop bag and held an old thermos filled with goji berry tea. He clocked out at exactly 6:30 p.m., boarded the second subway car at exactly 6:42, and exited through station gate 2 at exactly 7:03.

The last time the surveillance cameras caught him, he was wearing an elegant smile as he walked into a five-story old building slated for demolition.

After that, no one ever saw him again.

Reader's Guide:

* The blurb is in first person, while the main story is in third person.

* Two male leads (Sikong Anchen and Xiang Siyan), no romance. Xia Yang appears as a supporting character.

* A mystery and detective story, a short read. I'll try to make the logic work, but there may be plot holes. Feel free to point them out.
