A clear-eyed male lead x a female lead devoted to Buddha
In the tenth year of Yongzhao, the State of Qi was defeated. Li You'en, an unloved princess, was sent to marry into the enemy nation.
By then, she already had someone in her heart: a handsome young gentleman.
But she could not defy the emperor's decree, and Li You'en had no choice but to put those feelings aside. Fortunately, the young man seemed to dislike her very much, so she left without any lingering attachments.
Li You'en never imagined she would one day return to Qi. She came back quietly, without joy or excitement.
When he heard she had returned, her childhood friend cornered her and begged to marry her, much to Li You'en's annoyance.
The thing Xin Zhao regretted most in his life was rejecting the empress's plan to betroth him to the princess, which led to her being sent to marry into an enemy nation.
But it was all right. He spent five years fighting his way into that country and bringing the princess back.
He thought that this time, they could mend their broken relationship.
Notes:
1. The female lead is not a virgin, while the male lead is. Avoid this if that bothers you.
2. The story begins after the female lead returns from her marriage alliance, with flashbacks to the two of them in between.
3. This is a bad ending story. I thought of countless ways to reconcile them, but none felt true to my original vision. Perhaps, little by little, I became just an ordinary storyteller. This is the ending they were meant to have. Please think twice before reading if you dislike this kind of ending!
4. You can criticize the author, but please don't criticize the characters I write T^T
5. This is a writing exercise. I'll do my best to finish it and won't abandon it.
Theme: Live as your true self.
