The fake bully, the real bully. A loyal self-help mantra enthusiast (top), Lu Quran x the one who refuses to take things lying down, brimming with a sense of justice and always ready to fight (bottom), Gu Zhian
One weekend, Gu Zhian was enjoying a cozy lie-in at home when he woke up to find that the world had turned upside down. No, it hadn't, but... he had transmigrated.
Gu Zhian: "Oh heavens! Oh earth! At last, this blessing has come my way."
Finally free from his awful parents, his life switched straight to easy mode. He put on his school uniform, slung on his backpack, and headed out, full of ambition and ready to rule the place.
But who could have guessed that the neighbor next door was a blue-eyed little waif, constantly cornered and bullied by a pack of barely pubescent brats?
The first time he saw it happen, he felt sorry for the kid and immediately quickened his pace to leave.
As if! He wasn't about to get involved in someone else's business.
The fifth time he saw it happen, he punched one little thug flying. His little neighbor blinked those gem-like eyes at him, staring in a daze.
Gu Zhian was speechless. Was his neighbor born without the nerve called defiance?
The tenth time he saw it happen, he took a deep breath and suddenly made peace with it.
Maybe this guy really wasn't quite right in the head.
Gu Zhian made quick work of the thugs. The mood was right, his fists were flying, and before he knew it, he'd given his little neighbor a beating too. He couldn't help it. The kid was just too infuriatingly spineless.
Gu Zhian: "Why don't you fight back for once?!"
At the time, the little neighbor was still a sweet, innocent-looking boy. He lifted his bruised and swollen chin and gazed at Gu Zhian with a pitiful look under his exasperated, reproachful stare. "Thank you, but..."
Gu Zhian watched him with eager anticipation, only to hear him say in a calm, zen-like tone, "Everything that happens is in my favor."
Gu Zhian: ?????
Have you been brainwashed by self-help quotes or what?!
Gu Zhian was numb. His heart was dead. He truly couldn't do a thing with this guy.
*Lu Quran's daily routine:
Mom doesn't love me, Dad doesn't care, a little cabbage left to grow in the field.
Beaten and kicked, cursed and scolded, they say I'm bad to the core.
He had long since gotten used to his bleak life. But one day, Gu Zhian dropped out of the sky, his little face full of fury. He gave those horrible kids a thorough thrashing and told Lu Quran to make a fist and fight back.
Lu Quran quietly told Gu Zhian that he did fight back. Gu Zhian didn't believe him and told him to quit pretending.
Fine. If that's how it was, he wouldn't explain himself anymore.
From then on, whenever Gu Zhian was around, he pretended to be kind and timid to win sympathy. When Gu Zhian wasn't there, he ran wild, slashing tires, tossing homework, and committing every sort of mischief.
Little by little, he developed a twisted desire for Gu Zhian:
He wanted to kiss him, and he wanted them to date.
But they were both guys. Gu Zhian would never agree.
So Lu Quran, who never held himself back, made a rare effort to restrain and suppress his feelings. Meanwhile, Gu Zhian kept foolishly coming closer: hugging him, putting an arm around him, leaning against him, holding his hand, ruffling his hair, constantly provoking him.
In the end, he couldn't take it anymore. So what if they were both guys?
And so, he kissed him.
One punch in exchange for one kiss.
Blood tasted sweet. Worth it.

On the night he was forcibly kissed, Gu Zhian had a strange dream. In it, he learned that the world they lived in was a novel, and that he was an anonymous cannon fodder character who was written out early. Gu Zhian wasn't impressed. That role wasn't cool or powerful at all. Lu Quran had a much more impressive part: he was an utterly evil villain.
In the dream, Lu Quran got everything he wanted, yet remained miserable and even tried to hang himself at home.
Gu Zhian: ...Are you sure we didn't get our roles mixed up?
And seriously, Lu Quran, you idiot! You tore the plot apart, kicked the protagonist around, and even got the last laugh. Why the hell are you trying to kill yourself?
Had it been too long since you had a good life? Then stay alive and enjoy it!
Later, Gu Zhian rested his head on Lu Quran's lap, eating grapes fed to him by the great villain himself, and suddenly thought: Dating might not be so bad after all.
After all, Lu Quran's the one who'll be getting the short end of the stick. Maybe I'll do him a favor and give it a try?
