[Blunt, straightforward amnesiac princess x aloof, self-righteous-seeming man who's actually a master of gu] (They're both clever; the heroine is only naive around the hero, and is absolutely not a silly, sweet airhead!)
[Amnesia * Miaojiang witchcraft and gu * One in the open, one in the shadows * Love and hate * Feigned gentleness, true schemer]
After losing her memory, Xie Ying found a male favorite by her side.
Everyone in the Great Jing court knew that Princess Huaishan had brought back a married man from Miaojiang and, in defiance of all propriety, forced him to become her nameless, untitled male favorite.
The person behind the beaded curtain was as pure as jade, refined and radiant, yet imprisoned in a tiny world, unable to take a single step outside.
Everyone sighed that the gentle and refined Holy Son of Miaojiang had been seized by the powerful princess against his will.
But no one knew that, in the palace where music and revelry rang out night after night, Xie Ying, her splendid robes trailing across the floor, had fallen into the Holy Son's arms, her voice trembling. "Fu Qinghe, undo the gu curse..."
After losing her memory, Xie Ying had completely forgotten that man. She slapped the table. "Nonsense! How could I possibly abduct a married man?"
Her voice abruptly fell silent. All she could do was stare blankly at the man before her.
He was elegant and refined, with a face as beautiful as carved jade. The bells at his waist chimed as he walked, and it seemed he could melt ten miles of frost and snow. He was gentle and composed with everyone, but the instant he saw her, a hint of disgust crossed his face.
Fear welled up inside her, and Xie Ying instinctively kept her distance from this dangerous man.
She removed the jade bell from Fu Qinghe's waist, moved him to a side hall, and stopped summoning him at night.
She didn't care when nobles humiliated Fu Qinghe.
When clear-headed, she was proper and courteous, keeping Fu Qinghe at arm's length. But on the night of the full moon, she rushed into his room, wanting nothing more than for Fu Qinghe to look at her one more time.
She clutched Fu Qinghe's pale wrist tightly in her hand. He couldn't struggle free, and all his coldness and disgust were swallowed up by Xie Ying, who had fallen unconscious.
Everyone thought Fu Qinghe was pitiful: still so young, trapped in Chang'an, with a ravenous princess for company.
"Does Your Highness remember now?"
*
That day, Fu Qinghe was once again pinned to the table by Xie Ying. When what he expected did not happen, he stood frozen for a long moment. "Does Your Highness no longer need me?"
"The gu poison has been cured. Young Master Fu, you can go home."
She strode out, but behind her came the clear chime of a bell. The man who had always seemed so gentle was wearing a mask like that? Without it, he was no different from those venomous snakes.
"Your Highness is being naughty again. Didn't I tell you not to throw me away?"
*
Xie Ying remembered now. She had run away, and the man before her was no gentle young gentleman. He was a demon who would devour you whole.
She was afraid.
The rain poured down. She hid inside the carriage. A pair of feet appeared on the ground, and the curtain was suddenly pulled up, revealing a strange, stunning face. He no longer looked like an immortal, but like the King of Hell.
The creatures the man had raised surged in from all sides, devouring her, weak and helpless. The gu worms that had always played nice were no longer gentle, just like their master.
Xie Ying couldn't escape, and didn't want to.
1. The male lead has no wife, but he is engaged.
2. After she regains her memories later on, there will be confinement scenes. Both leads have their own storylines, but the main text focuses on the princess.
3. The princess's life has been adjusted somewhat: she grew up in the palace until age seven, then in the grassland army from seven to sixteen. She met the male lead at eighteen. She is twenty-one when the main story begins. Please point out anything I may have missed changing!
4. Everything serves the romance. Thanks to all the supporting characters for their sacrifices (hands together).
Here's a preview of my next book. Please add it to your reading list~
"I Woke Up and Had a Child with My Archrival" [A laid-back, slow-to-react girl who's secretly ruthless but outwardly innocent x a seemingly benevolent, charming god who's secretly ruthless]
Li Ansu thought she was probably the happiest layabout in the world. The only unusual thing about her life was that she had married a man who was far too handsome.
Her husband was gentle and considerate, and could both do her hair and cook. They had been married for years, and their life was peaceful and ordinary. Their only problem was being a little short on money.
Her husband went to teach at the school every morning, while she prepared goods at home. On market days, the two of them hauled everything to the market together to sell.
If anyone bullied her husband, she was the first to object. She would rush in to defend him.
Then, on a dark and stormy night...
"My lord! We've finally found you!" Several menacing demon generals knelt in the courtyard, frightening her so badly that the chicken leg in her hand dropped to the ground.
She hid behind the door, only to see the man who wouldn't even step on an ant lightly tap his fingers. A flash of white light passed, and the courtyard was instantly splattered with blood.
"Why are you awake, my dear?" Qi Ye gently wiped the grease from the corner of her mouth, his eyes so full of affection they seemed ready to overflow. "Sleepwalking again?"
Li Ansu: ...This is a hallucination.

The earth-shattering war between gods and demons a thousand years ago ended when the Demon Lord An Su was sealed away by the God Venerable Qi Ye himself.
The war ended, and another millennium passed. The moment An Su opened her eyes, she found herself in a quiet farmhouse.
Her old enemy, once clad in white as pure as snow and untouched by worldly grime, now wore an apron and held a bowl of black, murky medicine. He smiled as harmlessly as could be.
An Su looked at her slightly rounded belly, then at the man before her, who was far too "domestic." She paused for two seconds, and an unsavory thought popped into her head at the worst possible time. "Qi Ye, I'm going to kill you!"
Naturally, she couldn't beat him. She turned and ran, but the door in front of her slammed shut, and a pair of hands touched her belly.
"Why are you running, my dear? Our child hasn't eaten yet."
Theme: Persevere, and even the sea can be crossed.
