A hundred years after Nan Yiyue sacrificed himself for the Dao, he was stuck, feeling wronged, inside a gilded statue. With nothing else to do, he could only read the novels his disciples and their descendants offered up, from X Point, X River, and X Persimmon. At last, one day, he transmigrated into a novel, where he was married into the wealthy Lu family to bring good fortune and wed their comatose eldest son, Lu Cha.
In the novel, the Lu family had been noble and distinguished for three generations. But in Lu Cha's generation:
His father had spent his youth crushing and swallowing up countless businesses, then died in a car accident as karma caught up with him in middle age.
The eldest son, Lu Cha, was a cold, ruthless capitalist who became a vegetable at a young age.
The second son was unfaithful in marriage. A quack doctor made his illness worse, and he was hacked to death by a passerby who stepped in to help.
The third son abused his power and was a tyrant in show business, until a righteous person had him blacklisted.
The fourth son committed financial crimes and secretly cultivated a criminal gang, landing himself in prison.
The youngest daughter was a brainless, love-struck wife, competing with her mother-in-law's daughter and throwing tantrums over the family fortune. She accidentally fell from a building and even angered the mother who had adopted her to death.
Years later, when Lu Cha awoke, he dragged his crippled body through the family mourning rites, seized control of the Lu family, and took crazed revenge on one innocent person after another, stopping at nothing, no matter how wicked. In the end, the protagonist's group brought him to justice, and he repented by taking his own life.
When Nan Yiyue saw the six Lu family members, their faces red as lanterns as they were bullied right to their doorstep, cursing without even knowing how to use a vulgar word, he sighed inwardly. "Look at them, so pathetic. Villainous tyrants? They're pushovers anyone can twist around their little finger."
In the eyes of a Daoist Venerable who had lived for centuries, the supposedly evil Lu family members were actually like this:
The father and eldest son were struck by an enemy in a car accident, one killed and the other comatose. The second son had an unhappy marriage and was hacked to death by a mentally ill person after a medical dispute. The third son was dragged into the murky world of show business and died in despair. The fourth son was framed by an infiltrator and had no way to appeal. The youngest daughter fell into the trap of a scumbag and a wicked mother-in-law, endured a hard life, then jumped from a building after her mother was falsely accused of stealing jewelry and died of anger.
Lu Cha had simply taken swift and decisive revenge on those who had wronged him, yet the saintly protagonist condemned him as evil.
Nan Yiyue felt sorry for them, but he never expected this pathetic family to be able to hear his thoughts.
And so, under Nan Yiyue's cold-faced commentary, the family stood back up! They took revenge, aired their grievances, and the love-struck ones severed their attachments...
But why had the cold, suspicious, ruthless, sinister Lu Cha, who had never been love-struck, turned into a sweet, clingy, affectionate little thing?
Nan Yiyue didn't understand. But nestled in Lu Cha's arms, he forgot all about his questions as soon as he was kissed.
As the Daoist Venerable who saved the world of cultivation, Nan Yiyue arrived in a technological world and utterly outclassed the occult practitioners who could only use its scant spiritual energy.
As a result, countless protagonists were horrified to discover that their divination and spells were too weak, their arrays and magic treasures no longer worked, their unorthodox methods were useless, and their golden fingers could do little more than tickle.
Nan Yiyue: "I don't think I did much, but I seem to have crushed a lot of people's confidence."
The Lu family: (Looking at him with admiration and respect.)
Lu Cha: (Looking frail) (Leaning against Nan Yiyue's shoulder) (Ignoring the startled, panicked looks of his younger siblings) "Big brother is amazing!"
Nan Yiyue: "It's nothing." (Puffing out his chest.)
[Note: Lu Cha is 27 years old. Nan Yiyue's ID says he is 22.]
