Childhood friends / Reunited after years apart /
Simple little fox (not the brightest) × insecure little cat (perpetually grumpy)
Back in their school days, Qiao Yuanyuan was caught passing notes in class twice.
The first time was in elementary school. She didn't yet understand what it meant to like someone, but after watching a few episodes of a TV drama with her mom, she was deeply influenced. On the note her deskmate passed her, she wrote: "I like Wei Jiaqi."
The second time was in middle school. Wei Jiaqi, the student council president, caught Qiao Yuanyuan skipping morning exercises and wrote her name down. Back in class, she passed her deskmate a note complaining: "I hate Wei Jiaqi."
The two were the same age and neighbors, and spent every long summer together. They should have been childhood sweethearts, yet somehow they became sworn enemies who rolled their eyes at each other whenever they met, though that was only on Qiao Yuanyuan's side.
No matter how obvious Qiao Yuanyuan made her hostility, Wei Jiaqi still listened to the adults and always waited for her so they could walk to and from school together, all the way through the college entrance exams.
When the admissions results came out, Qiao Yuanyuan learned that she and Wei Jiaqi would finally be going to different universities. At last, the day came when she could part ways with her nemesis.
This was their last summer together.
Looking at the Chinese tallow tree outside the window, Qiao Yuanyuan felt a trace of subtle melancholy amid her relief.
But she never noticed it.
-
One summer in her third year at work, Qiao Yuanyuan, now somewhat successful, came home for a short stay. Her younger cousin was getting tutored by Wei Jiaqi, who had become a respected teacher.
When she went to call her cousin home for dinner, Qiao Yuanyuan spotted a senior-year review book on the neatly arranged shelves in Wei Jiaqi's study.
Its cover had yellowed, but it was still in good condition.
She took it down and flipped through it, finding two notes with distinct creases inside.
One said: "I like Wei Jiaqi."
The other said: "I hate Wei Jiaqi."
Before she could even catch up with him, memories from long ago came flooding back.
She looked up and met Wei Jiaqi's eyes in the doorway.
Qiao Yuanyuan realized the Chinese tallow tree outside the window was still lush, just like that long-ago summer.
That summer, their separation had only been temporary.
-Just as the grass grows and the orioles fly, no matter how much time passes, they will return to that summer once more.
Theme: Little ones, take your time growing up.
Is the hero's mother seriously ill?
Some teachers are really unworthy😢
Ah, when I was a kid, I was also very concerned about mobile red flags.
When I was transferred to the city when I was a kid, I didn't know how to make friends. It seemed that friend took the initiative to communicate with me. In the second semester, she took the initiative to ask me the name of the new transfer student. I forgot about it later. I don't remember how I got along well with that transfer student. Several times I wanted to ask her if she remembered how we got to know each other when we were kids.
