Everyone says Han Xun is a true hero, a local tyrant with a temper that's a little too explosive.
But no one knows he's merely a puppet in the hands of the person behind the scenes, and no one knows that all his violent outbursts are caused by that person poisoning him.
Unable to bear it any longer, he decides to secretly save himself. So he abducts the all-powerful physician woman from the legendary immortal island of Penglai, making her his concubine in name, but keeping her to cure his poison in truth.
She is aloof and despises his bandit-like behavior, but can only go along with it to escape.
He is rough around the edges and can't stand a frail, sickly woman like her, but can only indulge her if he wants to be cured.
Later, the person behind it all discovers his efforts to get cured and cuts off his monthly supply of antidote. To his surprise, he ends up having a night of passion with her, in a fit of utter abandon.
A brave general, he is even more uncontrollable when the poison flares up. She is frail by nature, and falls seriously ill as a result.
He thinks she must hate him, but never expects such a delicate woman to boldly stand in front of him and confront that person, her voice sharp with anger: "He's already done more than enough for you. Why keep driving him into a corner?"
It is only then that he realizes his life, never his own to control, has been waiting for a ray of light like her to shine upon it.
From then on, whether in the streets or at court, he will never let go of her hand again. He will carve out a path for her through any danger, even if he has to fight through a mountain of blades and a sea of fire.
