A Detective in the World of Science, but Also the First Squad Captain of the Shinsengumi

As captain of the Shinsengumi's First Division, Sougo is based on a historical figure who, in many anime, is known for being sickly, beautiful yet tragic, and powerful, as well as a genius at swordsmanship who has brought countless girls to tears. In Gintama, however, he went from a frail, beautiful boy who inspired the imagination to a super sadistic, scheming menace. One bespectacled guy even said, "His looks are his only good point." Still, back in the day, he had the glorious distinction of ranking second in the popularity poll, just behind the Yorozuya boss, who had held the title of the anime character girls most wanted to marry for five consecutive years. So why did he drop to fifth place in the twentieth-anniversary poll?

"That's why, Okita-san, we can't give up! Even if being a masochist is now a thing of the past, we'll support you forever!"

A person who looked and acted so bizarrely that, if they were drawn in a manga, you'd think the author was going for a gag, suddenly rushed at Sougo and tried to grab his leg.

Just as Sougo calmly moved to avoid the strange creature, he blinked and found himself kidnapped to another world.

The normally unflappable officer was stunned for a couple of seconds.

It turned out that the suspected masochist freak was a collection of his fans' thoughts, straight out of legend. Out of the childish desire to make their favorite character more popular, they had sent him to the Detective Conan world, which was more popular on Jinjiang's fanfiction channel, so he could ride the wave of a crossover.

Now in another world, the plot had arranged for him to attend the police academy.

Sougo had followed Mr. Kondo as a child and, due to the limits of the era, had barely gone to school. He'd gone straight into the police force and become a working adult. Now, at last, he was going to experience the hardships of school and employment.

And so, a strange new student arrived at the police academy. He was younger than the others, and his background seemed powerful enough to suggest connections to senior officials at the National Police Agency. His handsome face and the baby fat still on his cheeks made him look well-behaved when he wasn't speaking. His superb swordsmanship made it clear he was an undeniable young prodigy.

Rei Furuya, who had been top of the class since enrollment, thought so too.

Perhaps the boy's age and talent made him stand out in an environment where everyone was striving to fit in and keep their heads down. Rei, who had once been ostracized and bullied, though he'd eventually fought back, couldn't help but look out for Sougo, driven by his own sense of justice.

Then Rei and his classmates grew closer to Sougo. They watched as he effortlessly beat up a group of scumbags who had used "teaching him a lesson" as an excuse to bully him, then tied them up in humiliating poses that would be difficult to get past the censors.

Rei: ...Looks like there's nothing to worry about. But Sougo, once you become an officer, don't do that.

Sougo shrugged. Drawing on his experience from the past few years, he remarked that there sure were a lot of rules in this line of work.

A few things to note:

1. I've been really into onion-head again lately, so I started writing this on a whim.

2. A slice-of-life story, mostly set in the Detective Conan world. It won't follow the Gintama plot, but the Gintama cast will appear.

3. No pairings in the Gintama setting; the Detective Conan setting follows the original. I'm a fan of the entire cast!

4. The mysterious organization from the Detective Conan setting, the Shinsengumi, will make an appearance.

5. The characters won't be smarter than the author. They're clever, but the author is too dumb.

Come on, write, write! Brain, hurry up and think! Don't go out of character, don't go out of character. At least show one percent of your master Sougo's handsomeness, okay?!
