But as time passed, the apocalypse people had imagined never came. They gradually stopped paying attention to the obelisks, and the structures became a part of everyday life.

Then, two years later, the obelisks suddenly began making strange noises, intermittent and painfully shrill.

People endured the noise for 72 hours...

Then it stopped.

What came next was a blinding light from the obelisks. They transformed into a web of connections spanning the entire world, enclosing all of humanity within it.
