Beneath the shadows of a bustling metropolis, evil quietly takes root. Xie Zhiyi, a female forensic pathologist, and Lin Huaiqing, a female police officer, join forces to confront brutal murders, one relying on her superb forensic expertise, the other on her bold investigative skills.
In the past, Xie Zhiyi's friend Wang Yiyan was brutally sexually assaulted. Her attacker stabbed her 32 times, and she tragically died. The tragedy has hung over Xie Zhiyi like a dark cloud ever since. At the same time, Ye Dongyi, a young university student, accidentally witnessed a crime scene and was brutally dismembered by the vicious killer. His body parts were scattered across the city at a hospital, a shopping mall, a sewer, and other locations, spreading panic throughout the city.
As the baffling cases unfold, police officer Su Beichen and his senior colleague Chen Yufeng investigate with all their might, but the tangled clues repeatedly lead them into dead ends. Xu Ange, a justice-minded reporter, uses her connections and keen instincts to bring the police crucial leads and help advance the investigation. Mall employee Liu Yueran, who discovered some of Ye Dongyi's remains, has suffered a tremendous psychological shock, but still tries to recall every detail to help solve the case. Su Beichen's younger sister, Su Wanqing, offers information after hearing rumors on campus, prompted by her fondness for Ye Dongyi. Liang Qiming, the hospital director, also cooperates fully and provides surveillance footage, opening up new avenues for the police.
As the investigation deepens, Xie Zhiyi and Lin Huaiqing seek the truth at bloody crime scenes and over cold dissection tables, overlooking no tiny clue. The police track the suspect through every street and alley, racing against time. Can they cut through the layers of fog and catch the mastermind, win justice for the victims, and dispel the fear and darkness enveloping the city?
