The day her father was laid to rest, He Jingchuan came back.
The sky was a bruised blue-black, and rain poured down in torrents, blotting out the heavens. Beneath an enormous black umbrella, He Jingchuan calmly buttoned his black suit and walked toward her.
"It's been three years, Nini." The man's gaze was predatory, his smile unreadable.
Ye Ni lowered her head, staring at her rain-soaked lambskin shoes. She didn't dare meet those demon's eyes.
Her father had died in a car accident, and the company was in turmoil. Rumors were flying that the mastermind was the very uncle now watching her like a hawk.
He Jingchuan was her father's business partner and the company's biggest creditor. It was only natural for him to return and claim the inheritance.
And that vast inheritance included seventeen-year-old Ye Ni.

He Jingchuan rarely trusted anyone. He trusted Ye Ni just once, and never imagined she would run away afterward.
The meticulous route, the ample funds, and the man who planned to share her future all pointed to betrayal. Yet He Jingchuan remained unruffled, brushing the back of his hand against the tears of the girl sitting on his lap.
"Be good, Nini. Don't be afraid of me. How could your uncle be angry with you?"
