[Showbiz] By the River of Endless Daylight

In 1985, at a cheap motel in the San Fernando Valley, fifteen-year-old Madeleine Michelle stepped into a pair of cracked pink heels and wrapped a lace curtain around herself like Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress. From the rusty fire escape, she called down to River Phoenix, who was fiddling with a secondhand guitar: "When I leave my handprints on the Walk of Fame, you'll have to wear a tuxedo and hold up my skirt!" The boy looked up. "Forget the tuxedo," he said, strumming a warped chord. "I'd rather film you in Some Like It Hot." "They say I'm a bargain hunter's knockoff Marilyn Monroe." She raised an imaginary Oscar, as though acting out a scene with her younger self on the fire escape twenty years ago. "But tonight, remember the names of these gamblers: Madeleine and River Phoenix. We never bet on fate." Theme: Only hard work can make dreams come true
