Synopsis
My next book is coming soon. Please, little angels, add it to your favorites to help me get it started
Zheng Yu unexpectedly binds to a transmigration System and becomes a pancake-selling NPC with a copy of the script in her hands.
The only way for her to return to the real world is to help the male lead in the book conquer the realm.
One day, a man reins in his horse in front of her stall. His fine horse and ornate saddle are matched by his extraordinary bearing.
Zheng Yu knows him: Xie Zhao, a rising star at court. In recent years, he's accomplished one great feat after another: controlled droughts, cured epidemics, dealt with locust plagues, managed floods, and offered the emperor a strategy that turned the tide of the border war, driving back an enemy nation famed for its mastery of warfare. His career is at its peak.
Continuing to roll out the flatbread in her hands, Zheng Yu loses the warmth she usually shows her customers. "My lord, you don't look like someone who enjoys flatbread."
Xie Zhao looks down at her from horseback for a long moment, then suddenly reaches out and firmly grasps her hand, slick with oil from the pancakes, lifting her onto his horse in one swift motion. His voice is gentle.
"A Yu, you helped me achieve great things and rise to prominence. I wouldn't dare betray you, even if it cost me my life."
Hearing this, Zheng Yu looks up at him from the saddle. This is Xie Zhao, the male lead of the book. She never could have imagined that one day he would repay her kindness with betrayal for another woman, holding out a bowl of poison and smiling at her with the same gentle expression. "A Yu, drink your medicine."
With the storm raging, Zheng Yu flees for her life and is forced to take shelter in an ancient temple.
The candlelight flickers in the meditation room. In the presence of the ancient Buddha and a dim oil lamp, a man leans beside a plain table. At the sight of the disheveled woman who has suddenly burst in, he doesn't know whether to drink the rough tea in his hand.
Zheng Yu recognizes the man at the table as Song Junshi, the book's second male lead. She was the one who had him imprisoned in the ancient temple. Back when she dealt with him, she had shown no mercy, so meeting him now is a bad sign.
But with an arrow already on the string, she can only make a deal with the devil. "Young Master Song, let's put our grievances aside for now and make a deal."
The room is dimly lit, and she can't make out the man's expression. Just as she's about to offer more bargaining chips, she hears him answer with what sounds like a sigh. "All right."
--
Song Junshi, the legitimate son of the Grand Secretary of the Cabinet, is as straight and tall as a solitary pine, with the grace of a fine jade. His status is exalted.
But he doesn't live without restraint. Every day, he's caught between killing people and helping his father secure his power. It's utterly dull.
Until one day, he sees the girl on the long street who sells flatbread day after day, bright as spring. Does she ever find selling flatbread every day dull?
Song Junshi doesn't know, but his numb, listless heart finally stirs with a strange ripple.
She loves someone else, and he wants to become the one she loves next.
--
The meditation room at Wuwang Temple houses two people weighed down by the strongest of obsessions.
Their robes and skirts are tangled across the floor, while candlelight flickers and soft sighs can be heard.
Holding her close as her brows furrow and she gasps and weeps softly, Song Junshi gently coaxes her. "Be good. Let's kill Xie Zhao, all right?"
She sobs her agreement, and he laughs in satisfaction.
Only then does Zheng Yu understand that the indistinct sigh Song Junshi let out in the meditation room was one of satisfaction.

May I shed the sins that cling to me, steal the spring light that cannot be stolen, redeem myself, and keep her safe.
P.S.:
1. Happy ending, both leads are each other's first and only.
2. They don't get back together after breaking up. The second male lead takes the top spot, and there's a fierce rivalry for the heroine.
3. The heroine is bound by the System's rules. If she breaks them, she'll suffer a severe backlash from the System.
