Zhuang Liu floored it all the way to the Qilian Mountains, but his car suddenly broke down. The wait for rescue was long, and he closed his eyes and fell asleep.

Someone knocked on the car window. Zhuang Liu was sleeping poorly, so he shifted and changed positions.

The next second, another voice rang out: "Let's go."

Zhuang Liu's eyelid twitched. He didn't dare open his eyes. That voice sounded far too much like the person who'd knocked on his forehead in his dream. Still half-asleep, he replied, "Let me have a bowl of beef noodles first, Zhou Chuang. It's bad luck to leave on an empty stomach."

There was no sound outside the window. A moment later, a bright light suddenly shone from straight ahead.

Zhuang Liu struggled to open his eyes. An off-road vehicle was parked not far away.

A man leaned against its hood. He had a lean, compact build and was lowering his head to strike a match. His sleeves were a little short, exposing very pale wrists. The flame flickered with the trembling of his hand.

Smoke rose, and a fleeting sense of familiarity passed through Zhuang Liu. He got out and walked over. "Sorry, buddy. Your voice sounds just like my dead ex-boyfriend's. I thought he'd come to take me away."

"Is that so?" The man in the black windbreaker slowly raised his head. Smoke drifted across his deep-set features, as grim as the dark shadows of the Qilian Mountains. His narrow, willow-leaf eyes slanted toward Zhuang Liu. "Do you still want to leave?"

Zhuang Liu's feet froze in place. Holy crap, he'd seen a ghost.
