An engineering graduate, Xia Ci has always been a staunch materialist.

A firm believer that ghosts and gods don't exist, he gets dragged into a "story game" that can't be explained by materialism, and even picks up a gloomy male ghost.

On top of that, no one told Xia Ci that coming to this place meant not only having to "tell stories," but also working as an unpaid laborer!

In the first story, the players have to be lumberjacks.

They don't just have to chop down trees. They're also told to "have children."

By day, people cut down trees. By night, the trees cut down people.

With every chop of the cleaver, bones are hacked apart. People become ghosts, and ghosts become people.

Luckily, the male ghost Xia Ci picked up, Shen Yanchuan, is a powerful ally.

To stay alive, Xia Ci calls Shen Yanchuan "Boss" the whole way. In the end, he finds out the guy is a few years younger than him.

Never mind. It's all for survival.

In the second story, the players are gardeners.

Their work includes not only pruning the garden, but also looking after the children.

The food models displayed on the kindergarten canteen windowsill have lots of little bite marks on the sausages and bacon, but not a single bite mark on the onions or green peppers.

The children's preferences are crystal clear.

Until one day, a substitute teacher discovers little bite marks on the dolls in the kindergarten, too...

At the same time, a strange nursery rhyme begins to spread through the kindergarten--

"Come along and play hide-and-seek in the garden"

"The gardener is pruning the green branches"

"If you hide in the bushes"

"You'll never be found again"

In the third story, they work at a circus, where the unscrupulous ringmaster turns them into beastmen and forces them to perform bizarre acts on stage.

On top of that, the circus's beastmen are subject to elimination. The beastman with the lowest audience approval rating will meet a terrible end.

The ferocious-looking beastmen are no match for the adorable little animals when it comes to winning people's affection, so they deliberately injure the weaker animals, keeping them offstage and unable to earn audience approval.

Turned into a white squirrel, Xia Ci can only cling desperately to Shen Yanchuan, who has become a unicorn beastman, and act as his fluffy scarf to save his own life.

By a twist of fate, the two are modified a second time and become a single body with two heads...

At the end of the story, Shen Yanchuan and Xia Ci manage to return to their human forms and no longer have to share one body. But they're told that this has bound them together, and they'll remain together in all the stories to come.

In the fourth story, the two take on the roles of tour escort and local guide for a tour group.

Shen Yanchuan and Xia Ci look up at the gold, extra-large, bold couple label floating above their heads, speechless...

No one said their bond meant they were a couple!

That would be bad enough, but no one said they'd lose several tourists every time they visited a "scenic spot," either!

As the story game relentlessly targets them, the bus grows emptier and emptier, and the tourists on the guides' list disappear one by one.

In the fifth story, the players work in property management.

Spied on by a lecherous ghost while bathing, Xia Ci pokes both its eyes with his fingers.

A hideous ghost presses its face against his in the middle of the night, insisting that it's Xia Ci and chasing Shen Yanchuan to ask if he loves it...

With no other choice, the property manager moonlights as a ghost hunter. That'll cost extra.

In the end, the fake couple becomes a real one, and it's the story game that started all the trouble that suffers.
