Shu Mo was a lowly palace maid, but many people secretly said she was lucky.
She was born on the same day as the Seventh Prince, Xie Xian, and won the favor of Consort Shu.
Xie Xian had an odd temper and disliked the little attendant his mother had sent him.
But after his mother was ordered to take her own life, he and Shu Mo had only each other.
The once high-born, beloved prince became someone everyone in the palace could bully.
Only she did everything in her power to protect him and cared for him with all her heart.
He thought she was wholeheartedly devoted to him, and that they were childhood sweethearts.
Until she knelt respectfully before him and asked, “Your Majesty, might you let this servant leave the palace?”
Now that he held all the power, he no longer needed her.
The man seated on the throne rose with a smile and walked toward her. That night, a violent storm raged outside, the bed curtains swayed, and the candlelight flickered.
Shu Mo was in pain and afraid. After painstakingly plotting her escape, she fled.
Inside the heavily guarded room, the man fixed her with a dark, menacing stare. Shu Mo trembled with fear.
“I kept the position of empress vacant just for you,” Xie Xian said as he moved closer. “And you left me and ran away.”
Shu Mo's eyes filled with tears. Terrified, she said, “Don't come any closer.”
“Don't you want me anymore?” Xie Xian's tone changed. His eyes lowered as he looked at her with wounded, pitiful eyes. “You swore it in front of my mother.”
Shu Mo's heart softened. She let him pull her into his arms, never seeing the cold smile at the corner of his mouth.
Both leads' first and only love, happy ending
