"Let's get divorced."
When Shen Mian sent the text, snow was falling softly from the sky.
She stood outside the art studio, holding sweet-and-sour ribs that had long since gone cold.
In a daze, she remembered five years ago, when Lu Zhi had paint smeared across her white shirt and solemnly placed their marriage certificate in her palm.
Shen Mian had thought they would love each other until old age.
She never expected that in the winter of their fifth year of marriage, Lu Zhi would once again miss their anniversary.
Snowflakes were nearly covering the screen when a reply finally came: "Okay."
Shen Mian left the signed divorce papers somewhere conspicuous, intending to ask someone to go to the civil affairs bureau with her the next day.
But when she woke up and opened her eyes again, seven years had passed.
The Lu Zhi of seven years later was a completely different person. The one she once couldn't get to come now wouldn't leave.
After trying to talk her around several times to no avail, Shen Mian finally laid down the law and got to live the ordinary life she had longed for.
Living alone was peaceful and carefree, but Shen Mian was often enveloped by the feeling of being watched. Someone was following her from the shadows.
After making a plan, Shen Mian went to meet a friend and successfully cornered her stalker.
But she never imagined that beneath the baseball cap would be Lu Zhi's face.
Lu Zhi looked like a broken puppet. With jerky, stuttering movements, she tilted her head and smiled brightly at Shen Mian. "Wife, long time no see."
[Extra Scene]
In the middle of the night, Shen Mian woke to find Lu Zhi listening to her heartbeat. "Wife, are you still alive?"
Before she could answer, Lu Zhi pressed a finger to her lips and made a shushing gesture all by herself, her smile sweet and cloying.
"It's okay, wife. I don't mind if you're a ghost. I'll love you forever."
