Older, beautiful, strong, tragic, gentle guide Shou Jing He x younger, puppy-like, loyal attack Yu Yang x elite squad’s top fighter and ex-husband attack Ying Baichuan
Jing He first met his ex-husband, Ying Baichuan, outside the Empire's top military academy. Their exceptionally high compatibility made them fall in love at first sight. During their two years at the academy, they were close roommates and partners, inseparable. Their classmates joked that Ying Baichuan was always within three steps of Jing He. They graduated at the top of their class and married soon afterward. After joining the war, they distinguished themselves repeatedly and were hailed as the Empire’s strongest pair.
Then came a sortie with devastating casualties. Ying Baichuan, who should never have charged forward recklessly, rushed into enemy ranks, was ambushed, and barely managed to escape alive. The subsequent investigation placed all the blame on Jing He, who had used his mental powers to control Ying Baichuan. The Empire forced Ying Baichuan and Jing He to divorce, stripped Jing He of all his honors, and threw him in prison for interrogation.
Ying Baichuan, meanwhile, received one compensation after another and was assigned a superior guide. He was promoted several ranks at once, becoming a major general and a rising star in the Empire’s military and political circles.
The interrogation dragged on and on, so long that Jing He wondered whether he would ever get out. Then someone suggested that it was a waste to keep a top-level guide locked up.
And so Jing He was fitted with electronic shackles and sent to the Empire Academy, where he became a tool for helping the new students unlock their potential. At the Empire Military Academy’s opening ceremony, he was handed out as a prize to the winners.
Jing He didn’t know how he managed to hold on when he learned that his lover was about to marry someone else, while he himself would be treated as a teaching aid, assigned to different sentinels again and again. His heart turned cold, and he was almost ready to blow up his mental sea. Then Yu Yang suddenly appeared, like a clingy puppy, shyly confessed his love, and chased off every other sentinel who tried to get close to him.
After Yu Yang, a commoner, awakened his sentinel abilities, he was assigned Jing He, a guide who had just been released from the Empire’s prison.
According to everyone else, Jing He was a used-up plaything of high-ranking sentinels, thrown in prison and tortured. After his release, he was sent to the Empire Academy to study again, an awkward 26-year-old among a crowd of 18-year-old freshmen.
But Yu Yang knew how powerful Jing He was as a guide. Even with electronic shackles on, he returned to prison every month for questioning, yet still insisted on teaching Yu Yang how to control his powers. Again and again, he joined his mental energy with Yu Yang’s, soothing Yu Yang’s volatile sentinel nature. Jing He was truly the number-one guide, the moonlight in the hearts of countless people.
Just as Yu Yang was about to graduate, when sentinels and guides were supposed to marry at once and head to the battlefield to increase their compatibility, Jing He was suspected of being a spy and kept at the academy. He was assigned to the next sentinel as a secret weapon for the Empire to improve its sentinels’ combat abilities.
Yu Yang smashed Jing He’s shackles. “No one can take him from me, not his ex-husband, not his family. He’s my guide, my wife. He’s not some discarded husband or an Imperial spy.”
Later, at a banquet for the Empire’s elite, Ying Baichuan heard Jing He call out from amid the crowd.
Without hesitation, just as he had done countless times before, he pushed past everyone and hurried to answer Jing He’s call.
But Yu Yang had already answered it. They were standing there with their fingers intertwined, their cheeks pressed close together.
Ying Baichuan’s eyes reddened with jealousy. He walked over and cleared his throat. He had expected Jing He to panic when they met again, but Jing He was unexpectedly calm. He merely extended his hand and greeted him politely. “Hello, Major General.”
Ying Baichuan realized in sorrow that Jing He had a new puppy now. He no longer needed Ying Baichuan, and no longer loved him. At that moment, Ying Baichuan had lost Jing He forever.
As he stood there stunned, Jing He bid him goodbye with polite distance. “If there’s nothing else, Major General, I may have to excuse myself for a while.”
Ying Baichuan looked at Yu Yang, standing beside Jing He in a protective stance, and understood everything.
Jing He didn’t wait for Ying Baichuan to respond. He simply turned his back on him and let his new puppy lead him to a private lounge, leaving Ying Baichuan standing there in frustration.
He had only resented how people always said he was the strongest sentinel because of Jing He. He had only resented always having to cater to Jing He.
But his resentment had cost him his lover forever, and there was no shortage of devoted puppies at Jing He’s side.
